  • I havent been keeping up, but when i read you had a virus checking program installed that imediatly hit me as a very bad thing! I was going to suggest removing it (but you already did!) LOL. At least its working now, right? My old norton antivirus crap caused the same problems. The reason has to do with the program scanning various system resources when you access other resources. So much for the 200+ message thread, j/k! : )

    • Poor old promise I knew it was innocent.
I bet the poor thing got paranoa now, it's probably so depressed it will commit sucide when it's re-installed.

      • The Pit:

        "The fallacy of assumptions" remember?

We'll probably get 20 or so more posts along the line of "I knew it all the time." Just refer back to the first page of this monster, and you'll see why it was so.

McRhea, I know you'll understand what I'm about to say. It is meant in the gentlest way possible, but accurate information is the mother's milk of long distance troubleshooting, and we didn't have it.

No beef really, McRhea, how were you to know that deleting a program mattered?...well it did, and now you know...
        EVERYTHING YOU DO matters.
The SEQUENCE you do it in matters.
        THAT was the whole point.

You owe a Jorden a case of Heineken, and so do I for dragging him around in this mess, but it was fun, and It's not over yet!

        BWAHAHAHA!!!
        .

200 posts, and we're finally gonna move a few IRQ's around

          • DANG IT!!! IT'S HANGING AGAIN!!!!!

HAHAHAHAHA, I got you there huh? I'm sooo bad...

It's morning now, and the comp is FINE! Nothing I do makes it hang. It was that little shit program...

The Pit... Hehehe, yeah... the Promise is right here... and you're probably right! Oh well... hahah

Jorden, Thanks soooo much for all the time you've put into my problem, I owe you more then a case of Heineken! Next time you come to Asia, I'll excort you around! It's the least I can do.

Bixler, Same goes for you too. And a special thanks for keeping it simple! I understand a WHOLE LOT more about the way comps work (or don't work) because of the simple instructions and simple explantions.

And thanks to all of you in the shadows that helped Jorden or Bixler. I owe you guys a nice beer.

Yeah, after only 200 posts we're going to move IRQ's around! ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not touching anything until I get some information though...

The Promise goes back in, right? And I should move the Modem to PCI slot 1 or 2...
right now the modem's on PCI #4... with PCI #5 open and then the G400 card.

            Thanks again and WOOOOOOOOOHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOO

              • Uh.... Everything went ok... The HD was jumpered as Single... the IDE cable is in all the way... The PC starts up normally.
The Intell 82371AB/EB PCI Busmaster IDE controller is set to "Both IDE channels enabled."

I've removed the Promise... and most of the files.

How do i go to my configuration screen?
I want to make sure there are absolutely NO drivers for the promise... Where is my configuration screen?

By the way.... the system is still hanging!!!!!! It might be because there are still some old drivers hanging around though... So let me know!

                Chris

Good to see you too Bixler! And the rest of you too!

                  • Somehow, I think it's all been worth it.

For you followers, remember the original whine from a new high performance video card owner about a card that wasn't working.

                    Hmmmm! The fallacy of assumptions.

...OK for you newcomers out there...the original scenario...

                    New Matrox owner:

"My card doesn't work right...Everything was OK until I put this S**t card in my beautiful system...WHINNE!!! "

                    MURC response:

"Take the doomaflotchy frammitz from the thingummy and place it carefully into the other domaflotchy...DUMMY!!!"

                    It's GREEK guys!!!

                    Keep it simple.

                    End of rant!

McRhea, now that your PRIMARY problem has been solved, it is now time for MURC heavyweights to shower you with the neccessary knowledge on the BEST config. for an Intel BX chipset MOBO (yours) and a G-400 (the finest compromise of speed and performance in the world), on a pissy little Phoenix BIOS with few options!. --Thanks Gateway!!

There are a few things you can do, and many that you can't, but that's OK, do what you can, get your IRQ's right...the next time you have a problem, remember your limitations, and FLY, Boy, FLY.

(but we could use a pix or two ) and a case of Heineken to Jorden for his patience.

                        • Pauly and Jorden,

I knew there was something kindred in spirit! My favorite single malt(s) are Usquaebach, Balvenie Doublewood, or the 15 (not 18) yr. old Macallan. Of course I'd go broke if those were my day to day brands. Nuttin' better in the world. You are men of taste.

Sorry to post off topic, but THESE are the important matters.

The Heineken was a gentle Ethnic slur
