But with that small risk you could run a whole city off of your video card!

Hey sounds like you are on the right track with this nuclear fusion thang, the fusion meaning they are fast and as hot as hell. So the Fusion is the equivalent of the G400 Max.
the downside might be that you have to periodically wipe the melted silicon from the bottom of your case, because I don't think a standard issue fan spinning it's arse off is going to cool it down
Look, I know you think the world of me, that's understandable, you're only human, but it's not nice to call somebody "Vain"!
I think this power issue is a big deal. Some of these big honkers are having a hell of a time running on many of our favorite MBs. Yet another challenge in coming up with the next-gen card.

I admire 3Dfx for recognizing this. Despite the fact that the V5 6000 requires an external power supply, you will *never* have a problem with it and the first generation Athlon boards which could not power a TNT2 Ultra card w/out crashing.

One problem I had when I still lived at home was that everything has it's own power supply these days, and I only had 2 wall outlets.
In my own flat I made one room a PC-room, with on both sides 10 outlets for 240V, 4 network outlets and 2 phone outlets... It's still working, even though I use 6 of the 240V on my side outlets already
So even if the Fushion Plus should come with it's own PS, which I don't think it will do, I'm ready for it.

I use to think the G450 was going to be the business card, the G450 Fusion the gamers card (around Geforce2 speed) and the G800 will be the super fast thing with T&L.
I now think the G800 will be the MAX version of the G450, probably still very fast (guessing they will go back to 128bit RAM), and the Condor will be the next big thing.
Just my thoughts. Oh yeah, the Fusion has almost got to be a dual chip board.
Another thing (rambling now), If that other post about matrox and SNK it suggests that matrox has a GPU on the way, and that it will kick ass. It will have to have multi chip setup, cos the bandwidth of todays ram wouldnt be up to the specs.
It's a bit strange to walk around in this 30+ year old flat, as half of it's ancient (wall outlets and wiring), and the other half is brand new !!
[start technical rant]
The meter closet comes with a earth leaking circuit breaker, which will close everything off when I have a surge, or when lightning strikes, or when a fuse goes.
This room has it's own group in the meter closet and electricity system, so I don't worry too much.
And as I said before, there are at least 4 very enormous big trees to the side of my flat, so if lightning strikes either of those, and I have power off, my systems here will be fried !!
About the only thing I could get for them is something that will allow the millions of Volts of electricity to leave the building through grounded (at least 90 feet deep !!) wiring, before my own ground wire burns out.
If you have a couple of thousands of guilders for me, I'll arrange that
If not, even a power surge protector or strip won't help me. As lightning strikes are about the only power surges we have here in Holland. And the 240V outlets are all grounded !!
It seems alot of you guys and gals are thinking that Matrox is going to some how explode into the gaming market with some kick ass card that will compete with Nvidias Graphics cards and even 3dfx cards.
Seeing names like G800 fusion or what not in a file suggests that these cards are going to just smoke other video cards. Granted new technology brings better things. But no one has any clue to what kind of cards these will be; gaming cards? or business cards?
From what an ex Matrox employee has told me is that Matrox and Nvidia are not even using the same business model. Nvidia is going for the guns with the fastest gaming cards pumping them out left and right. While Matrox is aiming towards a casual to business user, mostly OEM manufacturers.
I used a G400 before, Great card. But from what I've heard it doesn't look like Matrox is competing for a gamers market....
It all depends on what they're targeting the G800 for, will it be a high speed gaming card first and foremost,or will it be a more business oriented card that can still play a mean game of Q3 when called for,as i see it i don't think that anyone can keep up with nvidia right now, they are rapidly moving in a direction that not only is placing them in a position of great influence in the pc gaming market, but also in the consoles as well, besides those 200 million dollars that microsoft made to nvidia for the developement of the x-box gpu will come in very handy as well to probably release a graphics card of similar performance as the the x-box gpu,one graphics chip for two different platforms.
note to self...
Assumption is the mother of all f***ups....
