Well if I remember what our former M employee posted a while back correctly there was to be the Chip Formerly Known As The G800 soon followed up later in the year by two more chips, one a "business" solution and the second more shall we say retail orientated. He deleted all his posts and I didn't save them so my memory could be playing tricks with me.

this blue helix creature... I think that was the nick he used for his/her 'serious' posts, adn there was another nick he used for flamink matrox and some of us

He told all kind of stuff which he later deleted. (NDA chicken out?)

Remember that Amega review where the guy had been to Matrox and said their next card was OK, but they had some very cool stuff after that.

Well that next card would have bee the G450, which from an OEM point of view is quite cool (read: cheap), that would meant the G800 is the very cool thing after that.

Ill we realy need is a MX speed card, Matrox quality, and a good price. If they do have another card comming out near the end of the year, why spend big money on a stop gap.

The G450 was already out when the Amiga dude made that comment.

That's right! Also, the Amiga site doesn't mention anywhere "G450", they only mention, in several places, "NEXT GEN Matrox card" and G450 is far from beeing a next gen card.

I believe the guy actually named the G800 and talked about what was coming after.

                      I stand corrected

Oh well, maybee the G800 will be shit then.

Still, I hope they fix the BIOS issues so that I dont have to reflash it all the time when running on a high FSB.

Things clear up now with this new piece of information:

Matrox stated, that the next chip will be pin compatible to the G450. So what can we expect ? Some sort of "G500" consisting basically of an g4xx core, with an T&L engine and 128-Bit DDR RAM. I think this piece of hardware will aim at the business market.

Later on in fall, they present the completely new designed line of chipsets, the line of products the gamers are waiting for and what we expect to be the "G800".

What do you think about that ?

I don't think they need to be in a hurry to come out with a business card now any more since most businesses have curtailed capital spending. I hope this doesn't hurt their ability to fund R&D on the enthusiast market. If we're lucky, our dream card is nearing production.

                            I think a 128bit DDR G450 would be a good idea.

If they released it (call it a G500) at a low price point, say US$140 or so, it would make sense.

It would perform at about the same speed as a MX, but would have all the advantages of the G450 (quality, good DH, stable drivers etc).

When we found out the G450 was made on a .18u die we all expected it to be clocked nice and high, but it wasnt. Matrox must have been ramping up yeilds on their production line for a while now, so I would be suprised if it wasnt possible to get 200Mhz out of the G450 chip with only a few changes.

T&L is a bit of a waste still. I can only think of 2 games that use it, and it doesnt add to gameplay at all yet.

We would have a chip capable of playing all todays games at a good framerate without breaking the bank. My G400 is getting a little slow, and I do get tempted to get a Radeon every now and again.

Then again I find it hard to beleave the G450 chip is the best Matrox can come up with after 2 years of R&D.

                            Anyway, must do some work.

I would tend to doubt that The Chip Formerly Known As... will be this card, it will be the next next gen product from Matrox.

Matrox's next card should be so fast, that supercomputer export laws apply to it.
