    • Blah blah blah...

Remember, when Matrox actually 'announces' the card, it won't be readily available for at least several months.. and then I'm sure it'll be a real pain int he ass to get.. remember the G400MAX supply problems?

Best case: M releases the infamous G800 card that is about equal to a GF2GTS in performance. Card available in volume by June.

Reasonable Case: M releases a G550 (or whatver) with 'midrange' peformance, comperable to say a GF2MX. Available by July.
Then later releases a 'high-end' card, close to GF3 performance, available for christmas season in November.

Ugh Case: M releases a Gxxx with lackluster performance (kinda like they did with the G450), beter than G400MAX but not by all that much. Supply problems, somewhat available by August. 'high-end' card delayed until early 2002, which at that point will be blown out of the water by everything else out there.

Unfortunately, my confidence in Matrox is pretty low right now, and still dropping. So I can almost see the 'ugh' scenario happening. Anyway.. that KyroII card looks pretty sweet.

      • Hi,
I just hope that Ant is wrong (see www.murc.ws) with the G550 statement: not even the double of the G400 speed ??? My GeForce 3 is nearly four time faster even with HRAA on... Matrox REALLY needs a high-end solution, they need OEMs contracts like Dell/Micron/Gateway; IBM and SUN workstations will not allow them to accentuate their market shares... I remember the G800 specs that were around a long time ago: 3 pixels pipes, 3 textures/pixel pipe, high-speed DDR-SDRAM, programmable T&L and more; if such chip would come out now, and it happen to include at least some kind of HSR techniques, it would be a great performer; if the G550 is only a souped up G4X0 with T&L, it would SERIOUSLY (four letters word here)... I just hope that TCFKAG will live up to our expectation Please M, don't let us down this time.

        • Hey,
I just translated the Matrox Italian web site using Babelfish, and here's what I got:

          http://www.matrox.com/mga/italiano/a...2001/cebit.cfm

          >We raise the sipario on " our " stars...

New development hardware; hope it's what we all hope for...

          • I have no card, no NDA, no knowledge from Matrox. I have information from numerous sources non of them being any form of Matrox employee or beta tester, but I know what I know is right and I don't want to spoil Matrox's fun so I'll continue to give cryptic hints

              • Hey, I know what it is!!! They aren't going to release new hardware, just a decent set of drivers for the G400 that have fast, fully compatible, and totaly reliable OpenGL and DX8 support!

                  • I don´t think any of those features is present in the product that is (maybe-maybe not) going to be announced.

                    Maybe later in the fall.

                      • I know that the english message doesn't say much, but the Italian and the French messages are much more promising...

I've already posted the translated italian message, so here's the french message (my own personal very accurate translation..."Come discover the new stuff Matrox has in reserve" (an almost word-for-word translation)

Also, I may be mistaken, but I think that Miss Maarvel and Miss Millennium will be M's first Booth Babes ever...

Anyway, I believe Matrox HAS to announce and ship something good soon, as in June, TWO years will have passed since the G400 annoucement... I just hope they don't end up like #9, Tseng Labs or 3Dfx...

                        • some ppl are believing that Matrox cannot come back with decent product.... That's a bull****!

Even STM / Power VR was able to come back with KYRO II including low price and good quality and / or speed. What was their last good chip? was it PCX2? I think that everyone still remembers Matrox m3D.
AND THAT gives us hope M's next product will be fast enough and including "cutting edge" ( I love those words ) technology AND hopefully it will be introduced at CeBit!

and what comes to Matrox shipment delays... I don't have money for changing my AIW Radeon to Matrox next gen card until summer anyway.

                          • Let's go Matrox, Let's Go!!

Seriously, I hope they do announce something that will at least compete with the GF3 in features, and maybe the GF2 in performance. I'll spend quite a bit for something like that from the big M, since I want smooth, higher resolutions (than my Max allowed), while at the same time displaying better quality than my Elsa Gladiac does (with at least similar features).

I mean, my Max doesn't suit me as well for UT as the Gladiac, since it can't keep the framerates up where I need them (ask Kindess and a few others about a certain DM server we've been on lately, with like 14 minimum players in VERY small maps, lol), and while the Gladiac does a much better job of keeping the frames flowing, it lacks the beautiful crispness that the Max gave me.

I want the best of both worlds!!

                            • The quality will be there but I´m uncertain about the speed. The G400 was the fastest thing around (MAX), but this time I don´t think they will be one of the fastest. But Radeon speed and good drivers will earn them (matrox) my money.
