What if the new spiffy card ( G1,000,000 ) is something odd like a 64bit PCI card running at 66mhz?

I'd expect to see any new cards out this year to support both AGP 4x as well as the up coming AGP 8x standard, the final specification for it has been out for it for quite some time and the fist chipsets supporting that feature will be released in a couple of months(Via's KT333a chipset)...and that's something that it'll be very usefull if we want to see these cards perform at their best..
Intel surely has an AGP 8x chipset coming out this year as well, probably towards the end of the with their fisrt dual DDR sdram chipset for the P4...so there's no need to bother with 64bit/66 mhz pci with in any case has half the bandwith of AGP 4x anyhow...note to self...
Assumption is the mother of all f***ups....
Primary system :
P4 2.8 ghz,1 gig DDR pc 2700(kingston),Radeon 9700(stock clock),audigy platinum and scsi all the way...

As I have a flash back to a thread in this fori not so long ago about 4x compatable v's compliant g400's
So wombat, the translation is any card bought now may be 'compatable' but not 100% compliant, no?

English doesn't borrow from other languages. It follows them down dark alleys, knocks them over, and goes through their pockets for loose grammar.

The draft in intel's site hasn't been updated in a long time either,i remember seeing that particular draft last year(exact same version too),note to self...

But the point remains that if the chipset is advertised as supporting AGP8x,even though it's coming from via(),means that they must have some method of testing that feature....note to self...

On the other hand, matrox is just one video card company,VIA supplies anywhere between 30% to 40% of all the motherboard chipsets on the market(for intel and AMD cpu's combined),so you can imagine the shitstorm that it's liable to go through, both publicity wise and possibly legally as well,if it turns out that feature doesn't work as advertised...note to self...

Well, I'm sure SiS's video cards will work with their motherboards, since if/when the spec is tweaked, the components will mismatch it in the same way.
Look, just accept that the spec isn't final. If it were, it would be published.Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

Superfly: SiS/VIA can release any number of products based on this spec at the moment, just a shame if the Intel (or AGP forum, whoever's responsible) change any crucial aspects between now and the final spec. If anything is to hit the fan, it wont be the first time to involve VIA

Look, i know that VIA's reputation isn't anywhere near spotless when it comes to compatibility issues, but to add such an important feature as AGP 8x,which is quite hard to implement in itself, considering the tech has been in development for the last 2 years(at least),they have to be pretty sure that the final spec won't be changed before advertising to the world that their upcoming chipset has it,don't you think???....note to self...
