Why? Yeah, I know it's nVidia, but I've been looking to get a card with decent OpenGL drivers and that's got enough power to at least run games that are out now halfway decently. Oh, forgot the important part... a inexpensive card that does that.
Well, I got again tired of waiting and got a Creative Geforce4 Ti4400 to replace my KyroII. The Kyro was still doing ok, but... oh you know the urge
What I can say it´s not half-bad. I´m not terribly impressed with 2D quality (although NvMax "vibrancy" tweak gets you intrigued because it noticeably improves image quality) but it does have anything you may ask for now. Yes, of course it flies on 3D and it overclocks like mad (reported to do 325/667!)
Well, I got a DX6 part from Matrox, a DX7 from PowerVR and a DX8 from Nvidia. I may as well get a new DX9 part from Matrox next year
so I'm sittin' dere in R&D and I hears a knock at the door, but when I answer it, I don't see nobody, next thing ya know dere's dis fly in my face buzzin' 'round my head and screamin' "DONNEZ MOI TOUT LES PARHELIA!!! . . . VITE VITE, LES PARHELIA!!!".

I can't wait to see superfly's "where can I get Parhelia drivers? --Just asking" thread.
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.
PS: that´s at Ti4600 speeds (300/600). I still haven´t tried higher speeds and I´m testing how stable it is. RAM at 2-2-3 (I got to hack the bios with chfsb to get 2-2-2).
Do me a favor and run 3DMark 2001SE and tell me what you get??

Joel,
I got the opportunity to test a Gainward ti4400 on a T-bird 1.2 GHz (100Mhz FSB) with 512 SDRAM and got around 6500 or so at default settings. I guess the FSB and memory were holding the card back 'cause I've seen scores of over 10k.
I also tested that codecult benchmark and got around 24 fps on avarage at 1024*768 without AA and about 20 fps with Quincunx enabled. Pretty sweet card in 3D!

I think you should be getting higher results?!?
This not that much better than my Radeon8500 does (http://service.madonion.com/compare?2k1=3065757), and when I consider the price of those two cards....

Should you not get >>10.000 3DMarks with a GF4?
Not actually. I´m basically cpu limited and let´s face it, the K7S5A isn´t the fastest board around anymore. With a little more tweaking (2-2-2 on the RAM and a bit more overclocking on the video card) it could actually break the 10000 mark. Those 10000++ scores are on high tweaked KT266A systems and with faster Athlon XP or PIV 2.x Ghz.
If I do a processor comparison on the MadOnion result browser, it´s actually the fastest score for my cpu speed (followed by a Ti4600 with 9590, a Ti4400 with 9308, a ATI FireGL with 8610 and a Radeon 8500 with 8020).
The result is also leveled from on-line reviews. Here´s some values from the www.ocprices.com (were I was hinted for the amazing overclocking potential of the Creative board and made up my mind not waiting for the 4200) on a KT266A board with a XP1700+ (default Ti4400 speeds)
The Radeon 8500 always exceled at 3dmark2001, so that´s nothing new. About the price difference, that´s actually not valid around here... I know about the $130-$150 you can get a retail Radeon 8500 on the states, but here I got the Ti4400 for €410 and the cheapest retail genuine ATI 8500 was for €358, so not that big price difference.
Anyway, 3Dmark2001 never was my favourite benchmark because it never reflected real world performance and it still doesn´t.

Well...getting in the building itself was quite easy actually, just had to pose as a fire marshal to inspect the premises...
it's leaving with the cards that actually posed a problem, those security gards can really run and unfortunately,i had to drop the cards so i could make over the fence...Thank god it didn't have barbed wire.... ...
Have to try again later...any suggestions on how to do it?...
note to self...
