  • no... you have to be happy with hints...
If I would share my knowledge in this case, it would cause some ppl get on serious trouble. and that's something I don't want to.

another thing is that I am not 100% sure if my info is even correct so just wait and see.

G800 and Avalanche made me cautious...

This sig is a shameless atempt to make my post look bigger.

        • The visual quality will be STELLAR!

          • hmm 2d quality - matrox is consistently excellent, but if you read around on forums, you may discover that:

            1) depending on the maker (e.g., Gainward), the new GF4's can equal or exceed any existing Matrox desktop video card in 2d quality

            2) depending on the driver version, ATI 8500 is better than any existing Matrox desktop video card in 2d quality

Now, I haven't seen direct comparisons in person, but... Matrox should be proud that it took YEARS for the competition to catch up and/or pass it in 2d... perfect time for the new Matrox chip to come out to once again set the standard for 2d quality.

            • I have a Gainward GF3 Ti. The 2D quality is pretty decent. It's a LOT better than any GF2, and certainly not Blur-o-Vision.

Does it meet and exceed my G400's quality? Not a chance. I run my monitor 19" at 1280x960. I can notice the lower quality of the Gainward if I look for it, but it's not obvious and painful. Now, put it on a 21" (or better) running 16x12 (or better), and then I'd be wishing I had my Matrox card all the time.

              • They didn't.

My neighbor just bought a Gainwared GF4 MX440 and the same type of monitor I'm now using (ViewSonic A90f). It's certainly NOT up to Matrox yet in 2D. Maybe the Ti4600 will be different, but I kinda doubt it.

                • Quite likely the case with the gf4mx... which is a poor value card. The Ti4600 (not sure about the other gf4 ti's) uses more PCB layers and different components. Again, all I'm relating is what I've read, not seen for myself. I tend to believe more about the 2d quality of ATI (not their 3rd party manufacturers) more than nvidia, but things do change given time....

                  • I have both an old Radeon64MB VIVO and a Radeon8500, and while the 2D is much better than any NVidia I've seen (never saw a GF4, though) and I'm overall VERY happy with the card, it's 2D is slightly but notably worse than that of my G400 - at least in 1600x1200@85Hz.

                    • The Creative GF4 Ti4400 has decent 2D but nowhere near to Matrox quality. I would say on pair with my former Hercules 4500.
                      I´m running at 1280x960 and it´s OK.
I believe Creative is not really know by outstanding 2D quality on their cards (their TNT2 cards sucked really bad), but I heard since the GF3 Nvidia is really monitoring much closer the quality of components the manufacturers use before selling their chips.

                      • Which means, if their QC guys are doing their job, the other GF4 boards aren't up to snuff either.

At any rate; they'll have a whole other standard to chase pretty soon

                          Well .... IMHO the GF4 MX440 isn't a GFX card it's a piece of c***

Been reading this thread a couple of times now and all I can say is ... all those hints and saying things without saying them has made me very excited about a possible new Matrox card !!

However .... if this turns out to be nothing but ... G800 like jibberish then and I do mean

                          I feel like the day before christmas ( when I was a child ) x 10 !!!
So I'm pretty high on expectation and I have realized that my own expectations could be the ones letting me down and not my expectations to Matrox.
So I have slowly begun to adjust my parhelias even though it is hard with all the new info popping up.

                          1. Anandtech .... something new being shown behind closed doors .... aaaaaagggghhhh.
                          2. something with double or was it 4 times GF4600 performance on other sites.
                          3. and finally Trident with their new XP4 3D mobile chip which tells me that nothing is impossible.

                            I think someone's over-estimated things a bit there..
