    • NVidia is going to be implementing a similar feature in next gen GPU's (although the NV17 already has it...

Microsoft has also announced hardware decoding support as part of its next gen video acceleration layer, i am guessing to be part of DX9... for more information look around for Corona...

      edit: info is here

        • i am currently running an ATi 8500 in my computer, and recommended them to several other people over nvidia products... i am no fan of nvidia...

i was simply illustraiting that that ATi is not going to be the only company with high quality video decoding support...

i am guessing the nv30 is gonna have support for iDCT and motion compensation, as well as the nv17 (GF4MX/GO).

i also would not be suprised if Matrox has support for this in their next gen product, as all indications point towards this being a part of DirectX 9.

honestly, its a good thing if this is in DX9, as it would help adoption of this technology. the only things that supports it for ATi is PowerDVD and ATi's own dvd player. in theory their VCD and TV apps take advantage of the deinterlacing that it can do, but all this support is either implemented by the codec or the app, because its not supported by DXVA.

          • ATI's DVD player uses the Ravisent filters, so the Cinemaster and TheaterTek players also use the iDCT and hardware support of the ATI cards.

TheaterTek, Cinemaster and ATI's DVD player all have much better picture quality than PowerDVD or any other software DVD player on an ATI card.

            • All I was getting in my previous post was that IDCT in the "supposed" specs screenshot was not correct. I didn't expect this whole debacle to ensue. Next time I'll just keep my mouth shut.

                        • Kruzin is right that maybe the crystal ball would have been a better choice.

Having said that, I would be inclined to think that by the sweet teen of this month, my words will be shown to be golden.
