  • Damn ... there were three things I was waiting for before I got a new rig.

    1) USB 2.0 on mobo
    2) Firewire on mobo
    3) Parhelia

Two out of three came true, so I ordered my system last week with a 128MB ATi 8500. Previously I had a Millenium (8MB), G200, and now a G400.

Good news is ... I think I can find a sucker to buy the Radeon. I won't feel like I'm Darth Vader (i.e. the dark side) for too long. I can't wait for mid summer.

    • Just tell the "sucker" that it supports bezier curves like the parhelia and he will gladly take it off your hands !

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say this card will finally be able to compete with the likes of a Geforce 2 or maybe 3 mx card.
        GeForce3 MX ?

never heard about that one before ... did they really put one out ?

          • HA HA the Nvidiots are starting to come apart!!!!!

Without a doubt, once the reviewers tell about the AA qualities at speed along with "M"s 2D quality, all the little "n's" will be scurrying like cockroaches when the lights go on

            • We have base model Geforce 3 cards here in Canada, they are the ones that are clocked slightly lower than the premium card. I just automatically called it an mx. Sorry for the confusion.

If you look at my sig, you will see I am the farthest thing from an Nvidia supporter. Matrox has powered my PC since the original Mystique days. In fact I bought a TNT card once, just to return it a few days later. All I was saying was if Matrox had a product cycle that was less than three years my interest in the high end 3D market wouldn't have faded.

Seems like 90% of the people that used to post on here when I first started have dissapeared as well. I see alot of newbies.

                  • Looking pretty impressive indeed.
However, I heard numerous rumours that the base model of the Parhelia would cost USD499. Let's hope this is not true. I can only afford USD250.

                    • I want to buy one, but I think I owe it to the card to get an upgrade first (PIII700@868MHz)

                      • I dunno Chris, it seems kruzin has indicated it will handle business on his p3 700, I have the same, based on a BX board, this should be some graphics board to check out, it must have some considerable processing power of it's own, and not be that CPU dependent.

                        • ...but I'd think that it does not preclude it from scaling past the current fastest cpu's.

                              • So what you are saying is that once we have a P, not only will we have increase monitor numbers drastically, we will also now have an excuse for new CPU, Mobo, Mem, HD, the lot?

Oh dear my pockets feel empty. Maybe I should stick to 2D and the G450
