Unless they hire Gandalf to do it for them i don't really know where they should pull a ATI and nVidia killer from when their ressources are being either layed off or closed.
ATI and nVidia have probably ten times the ressources Matrox does.

While the MURCers may seem upset they still love Matrox Products. If Matrox brings out a good new product tomorrow everyone will buy it in a heartbeat. Now the question is do they still love Matrox as a company?

But there also have been changes in Matrox politics lately that made many people upset. MURCers are usually fair to Matrox, if there is sth. to criticize (ArseCasting) it gets criticized and if there is sth. to praise it gets praised like nowhere else.
But Matrox hasn't been very fair lately (banding issue ...) to its costumers.

I don't think anyone here wants them to be king of the hill and embark on a 6 months cycle, but I do expect them to be realistic on the price and have a look at the competition regarding that price, since they only have one product out (not counting the 256 version since it's supposed to be for CAD and also quite expensive).
They can't expect to get 400$ (up to 550$ in some countries) on it forever

Perhaps they requested for VigilAnt to politely "Shut the f*@& up" because people are starting to think that they really are going down the pan.

It is my opinion that Matrox may in fact want to keep their latest product under wraps without the speculation and rumours being shown as something more due to the fault of other sites linking certain threads (which have now been deleted).

Perhaps I am being over optomistic, but it seems to me that Matrox hasn't lost their goals in producing the best hardware available... in fact my mate has just swapped out his nVidia 4600 for a Parhelia because of the quality difference (oh, and that triple head surround feature he looked a bit jelous of the last LAN party we had). Just take a look at their video division's products, they can't all be that far off goal.

I believe I noticed a hint of "Matrox would have blocked rumours of Pitou from the start in the old days" and "perhaps it got a little out of hand".

VigilAnt, thank you for your insight... while short lived (this time round) it has at least backed one MURCer's opinion on what is one of the best companies around and almost certainly the one with the best support.

For all of our sake lets just hope they stay at the top producing the most powerful and innovative graphics hardware available for lord help us if Nvidia or ATI had the wheel.
Best company around ... WTF are you smoking. There are certainly many good employees in matrox, but the way the company is handling things as a whole at the moment is down right frigtening.

If matrox release an excellent product, and provide adaqute support for their products, including the buggy parhellia, then nobody in their right mind would be saying that matrox is going down the tubes. But they aren't doing either of those things, and its clear as day.

The indications are still that matrox is choking itself to death. You can't make the obvious signals disappear by deleting a few threads and stuff.

              Rugger,

Obviously this is my opinion, but I believe that a good company is made up by good products and good support... Matrox have both.

Yes there is the banding issue, not that I have ever noticed it when not looking for it.

I am still yet to see a crash from my system... And as I said, my mate just swapped his 4600 for a Parhelia

Yep, but there are also plenty of people where the banding issue makes their computers unusable. (headaches and stuff) By matrox delaring such behaviour to be normal, they are screwing these people over.

Likewise, I have never seen a crash caused by the Nvidia drivers. Your point being?

How could the banding issue make the computer unusable when it only occurs in 3D?

You have been very lucky not to experience a nVidia based driver crash and if you did, what then? Who do you tell?

I have a Matrox card... if it were to crash, I would report it on the tech. support forum and it would be sorted.

None of this really goes any way to finding out what's actually going on over at Matrox, does it?

I was going to get a P for Christmas - having been prepared for any issues with the card well in advance - but now I simply CANNOT justify spending that kind of money when I don't know if there will be a division to support it and produce driver updates for it in 6 months time.

Come on Matrox (I know you're reading this ) - give us something....anything....even BAd news is better than an arrogant silence
