I think it would create a bigger expenditure for matrox to come up with a lesser model. They at least need to invest in some new packaging and other printed materials. Not to mention the actual card production, wether it be completely new cards, or retrofitted cards. Combine that, with the actual revenue they will gain from each of those "lesser priced" cards. That probably would dug a deeper hole in their pockets than you'd expect.

What would make sense is for them to sell as much of the current P to all and every OEM computer builder out there. Sell them in bulk at discount prices. Selling the cards to be used on workstations with TFT LCD displays might resolve a big percentage of the banding problem.

Either way, the problem right now is not about having a mid priced card. Rather how to get rid of the current stock. The faster they move their inventory, the more money they make out of the current overstock (and vice versa). Which means the faster you and i will see new cards from matrox (if any was ever planned).

Sure we all would like to see mid priced matrox parhelias, but that won't happen if they have no money to make/market them.
