The Matrox must pull out a card dx10 (faranheit) for the LongHorn issue.

The avalon graphic rapresentation is more complex than the current gdi+. The graphics is always created in 3d and then displayed in 2d. The next g-card must be very competitive with the other.

Here Here Sasq! Whining isn't going to do much of anything. Let's just face the music..... that there won't be any music for a long time at Matrox. I loved them as much as the next person, but it's time to move on. Either deal with it, or don't. But all this whining is kind pointless..

I was just saying that I have Matrox's 3rd weakest 3d card (after P8X and P750) yet still I can happily play modern-ish games like C&C Generals and Homeworld2 on medium res with high quality and I am happy!

I think these gamers sites who urge ppl to upgrade from a 250fps card to a 280fps card are being really silly when all we really need is a 100 fps card max.

And anyway, I'd imagine most 6800 super-duper-ultra users have crap monitors and sound systems so they miss out on a % of the experience anyway.

Buy a Matrox card only for gaming? Of course not. But for work and light - medium gaming... why not? Anyone who actually pays the Adobe Photoshop or Flash full price would not whine about paying the Matrox premium for good 2D and quality. And they can play games too?

From that viewpoint, Matrox is fine, and that was what i was meaning in my past post. It's only for top-framerate and DX9 gaming that there is a problem - something that one card could possibly solve. They suprised us with the P8X stealth release, it's not inconceivable that this could happen again. Personally I don't think it's that big a deal anyway.

Keep their current market and make a small profit (or loss? shrug) or try and compete like Kyro2 with a product that might even be good but still the company crashes and burns (or at least gets low market share) because people buy NVidia anyway?

the P8X stealth release? we have been waiting for that card since they released the *original* Parhelia. It's not so much of a "stealth" release as much of a "no one gives a shit anymore" release.

the P doesn't even acheive top framerates in *previous* generation games - especially OpenGL ones. If the game was not compiled against DX9 and runs on other 2 year old cards, it should work well. but as soon as you want to run something that uses OpenGL or requires DX9 compatable graphics cards, you are SOL.

for the cost of buying a P, it makes far more finacial sense to get something else - like a 3Dlabs or one of the older generation FireGL or Quadro's.

Well the problem is that those cards that are getting 250 FPS donut exist any more with modern games. Cards getting that in Quake 3 where 2-3 generation cards after that game came out so I would hope they would get some insane benchmarks. Matrix hasn't been a player in the gaming market since the G400 Max and its been down hill since then. The G400 was the shit 5 years ago, which is eons ago in 3d gaming world.

As for the crummy visual quaintly...well thats pretty much in the past now with LCD monitors becoming more popular with people these days. I never really saw a HUGE difference in the visual quaitly when I went to a Radeon 8500 from my G400.

Its all about checks and blancences and Matrox at the moment doesn't work in my favor...its an Overpriced underpowered Video card for the vast majority of Consumers out there that looking for a Video card.

I'm just tired of Matrox's Linux support. Their tech support, is top notch for it, but their driver development team is sorely lacking. ATI isn't much better... so that leaves me with nVidia, which is the only one out there that I know of that supports the 64 bit processors under linux as well as FreeBSD. The newest drivers for the Geforce 6 series even came out for Linux before they did for windows! Hopefully I'll be able to cope with the 2D on it, but I'm sure I'll be happy with the 3D power... And most importantly, I'll be able to run linux without having weird things happen... like watching a movie in Totem and then moving the mouse won't leave a grey square in the movie... Oh and being able to use Kernel 2.6.x without having to reset my PC because X crashes..
