First of all, Star Control rocked. What a great game.
Some others:
Triple Action or Armor Battle on the Intellivision console.
G.I. Joe for the C64 (picture Joe pointing at you and yelling "TURN THE DISK OVER!!"), Commando also ruled.
Not sure of the name, but I think it was Monster Construction Set for the C64.
The original Prince of Persia
Falcon (v1.0) for the Amiga.
But, I think my favorite game of all time was probably Bruce Lee, on the C64. It was awesome.Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. Bastard coated bastards with bastard filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive, bubble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine. -- Dr. Perry Cox

Nobody said we could include Nintendo 8-bit (thanks, Rags!). I was a console girl in those days... had a Mac, y'see...
StarTropics!!!! and Golgo13 wasn't half bad, either.. there's quite a few NES games I miss.. the only reason I'd ever suffer all those EMU sites I have bookmarked...

Since we left computer games and added console games to the sorte I shall add a few more:
River Raid (Atari 2600)
Lode Runner (everything)
Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi (Atari 2600)
Legend of Zelda (NES)
Final Fantasy (all of them)
Phantasy Star (Sega Master/Genesis)
...
The list goes on. Star Control 2 is still my all time classic favorite.

Excellent choice of Atari 2600 games Jammrock I would have picked the same ones.
Also Atari 2600 'Adventure'
Defender Of The Crown (C64 & Amiga) - enjoyed playing that one quite a bit.
Sensible Soccer on the Amiga was good too.
The 'Games' series on the C64 were excellent also (California, Winter, World, etc)
I'll probably think of loads more just after I select submit.......

Defender, Pitfall (Atari 2600).
Zelda, Metroid
Land of the Red Dragon (remember BBS's?)
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

I have to agree with many of these, but you've overlooked at least one real gem:
Wasteland
Probably one the best non-Ultima RPG ever. Of the Ultima's I liked 5 the best.
I was also fond of an Atari game called
Star Raiders
which had some good elements of spaceship shootemups combined with a bit of tactics.

For any C64 people out there, there's great sites such as: http://www.bzpd.freeserve.co.uk/ with alot of C64 memorablia, or to http://home.freeuk.net/wazzaw/HVSC/ which includes the full High Voltage Sid Collection of (over 9000!!!) C64 game-tunes, musics and remixes, as well as all the musics from your fave demo's.
Available on CD as well
(Hmm, Jord, you're sounding like an advertisment... )
Okay, you can d/l even a SidAmp-plugin for Winamp to play these tunes from HVSC, from http://www.winamp.com/winamp/plug-in...cat=6&start=10
Jorden, always a C64 fan...Jordâ„¢

You might want to check out this site: http://www.freegamesonline.com/top30/topsites.html
A lot of the old classics are available for download through one of these sites.
Personally, one of my favourites is the original 'Dune'. I REALLY love the athmosphere of the game, and it has some fantastic music scores.
I even replayed it about a month ago, it's a big shame it is to easy, so you finish it in a few days :|

ok this is out there.
comador 64, this old alien game. were you had to either kill the alien or when you were down to the last 2 crew escape and blow the ship. i not too sure of the title i think it was alien just like the movie. it was a text based game with a real basic map interface that just showed crew locations. to this day i still find myself looking for a pc copy every now and then.

rags ups sucks too... i used to work for them when i was in high school. so when ever i want something breakable to arive in good un broken condition i ship 2day air. 2day air dosn't go through the normal ground handlers who just love to through things makerd glass, fragal, this end up ect.... we had one guy who loved to test vcr boxes buy placeing them at the end of a 60 or 80 ft trailer and run the length of the box then jump up and land on the vcr. if the vcr still worked it passed. (of corse he would never know as only the person receveing the vcr would know if it still worked)
