Well it definitely still has some bugs in it.
When I enabled EMBM the first time it worked, then I disabled it, and tried to select it again. When I did the screen became corrupted where the bump map should have been...

          Maniac : yes, I know
Actually I have just finished writing a proper routine to use the bumpmap proprietary texture format. Unfortunately, the result is less appealing to the eye, but the bug in question has disappeared. I've submitted the latest build to my fave Matrox tech, maybe he'll be able to help (or provide me a better bump map texture )

Well, I didn't encounter any kind of problems at all. The bump mapping is not as spectacular as I thought it might look, but nonetheless it does look cool It would be cool if we could change the bump maps to something else. I don't even know if that's possible. The program itself is very relaxing with great music and excellent backgrounds.

The nice thing is that you can change the bump+environment maps by editing or replacing the files bumpmap.bmp and envmap.bmp (jpg for beta 3). It's fun to try, here's a fragment of one of my attempts:

The latest beta 5 doesn't work at all for me though - many comctl32 errors at startup. :/

I gotta stick my $0.02 in. This is THE most beautiful game of Mahjong I have ever laid eyes on. Damn what a sweet little piece of software!!! Did anyone in here get the bumpmapping to work under Win2000? The environment mapping works for me, but not the bumpmapping. Even despite that, this is a beautiful game.

With me both EM and BM work with Kyodai 11b3 and W2K, but there's a catch - after having enabled BM I will always get a non fatal exception. The thing to do is exit Kyodai and restart it, after which EBM will be enabled.

As I said before, b5 does not work for me... with W2K! I didn't try W98, should have said that too.

Maggi: sorry, didn't have time to come here before. I was much too tired. (Hey, imagine that, there was no bump mapping support only one week ago in Kyodai... )

Helevitia: I don't want to make "spectacular" effects. Just have a look at all these games that provide great effects but poor gameplay. Before even implementing BM, I wanted to be sure the game would remain playable. That's why the effect is more subtle than spectacular. But if you change the bumpmap.bmp file, you'll get a great effect for sure. Only, you'll quickly switch back to the original one because you'll notice it's more playable and more realistic

Scytale: there's no Beta 4 I jumped from Beta 3 to Beta 5 because I don't like the digit "4" I don't know why Kyodai causes these comctl errors.

TheRock: thanks for your comment And you know what? It's been now exactly three years since I started working on my software. Since February 24 exactly. Most Mahjongg programmers would stop developing their game after a year or so. Well, I've never done that, and you want to know the secret? I'm never satisfied! Yep! I want more! I think Kyodai sucks! People keep telling me I can't do any better, but I know that I can, so I do it

Scytale (again): there should really be no fatal error after enabling bump mapping. I do nothing special when you click on this option. I only call a procedure that creates the BM texture... and then set a few needed SetTextureStageState calls... All of that is fully documented and directly rewritten from the C++ SDK examples from Microsoft.
If you can provide more details, please tell. Also, don't forget to tell Matrox that the Win2k drivers may be buggy. They know Kyodai for sure ) Check out Matrox's 3D Gaming page tomorrow for another proof...

Rene - please excuse me for calling beta 3 'beta 4', it was only because I don't like the digit 3.

I agree that there should not be an error after enabling bumpmapping.

With the latest W2K drivers I do not get the error any more (with beta '4' - you know what I mean ), but bumpmapping will just not be enabled until I restart Kyodai.
I removed beta 5 because it didn't work for me and caused an error loop (had to kill the process). I might try it again later and send you the exact error information.
