Woah, I set the array line to 1, and it worked?? See if this works for you. It seems to work for me? I rechecked the config.cfg and that line was missing. Maybe the autodetection didn't work correctly?

I am going to go play with Alice now!

Woah! This is some game! I loved the surrealistic theme, especially the chess scene.

One big problem: Some areas in the demo got really choppy (i.e. when enter that room to get the shrinker potion and falling into that dirt hole). It got to 1 FPS and worse. I thought my computer frozed. Did anyone else have this slowdown problem?

Hey everyone, just thought id pop in and let y'all know that if you are running win2k, dont use the latest drivers and try to play Alice. I reverted back to the 5.11 (i think) drivers and its works great....still a little choppy though, i had to dumb down the gfx to 640x480, still chops here and there. Thanks to rags for the tip Off to play....

PS if anyone figures out a way to get better performance, (in win2k OR 98) lemme know....

Whoa! I was actually useful for once. This means there might be something amiss with the latest drivers and Q3-engine games, in both Win2k and Win9x...although they do seem to improve frame rates in the original Q3A.

Did my idea work for you? Now, if I could get the game stop being choppy and crawl to halt in some areas... This needs to be fixed before I get the full version.

befor you all go completly crazy try going into your dxdiag and on the display tab click on the disable button for direct draw (should be the top button) this will rened your card into software mode but on any system worth win 2k this should be good enough for this game
havent purchased the game yet but this has been a magic fix for many glitches b4

antdude's fix worked for me, except for a few fogged areas that slowed to a crawl.

...and to quote stan marsh, that game's pretty #$@&ed up right here...

I just tried the Alice demo on one of our G400 test machines and it had no problems at all. I didn't have to change any of the settings in the config file.

My suggestion is to update your bios and drivers. The logic that Q3 works, therefore Alice should work isn't valid. We're doing a lot of stuff that Q3 isn't. So if you're running some driver that's optimized for Q3, it may not work right here.

The stats on my test machine:
                        Win ME, P3-600, 64MB, G400 DualHead.

                        Driver versions:
                        Bios: 1.6-25
                        Display: 4.12.01.1610
                        Powerdesk: 6.11.031
                        DirectX: 7.1

Shortbus, my sytem is Win98 FE, P2-350, Asus P2B-S (latest bios), G400-DH-32MB, unified bios 2.03 (latest) and powerdesk 6.10 (which is the latest, where'd you get 6.11 from?). I am using DX-8 however, could that be the difference?

To be honest, I don't know where we got 6.11. I went looking for the driver on the site, and got all confused by Matrox's inventive version numbers.

We had to test it on a 64MB machine. Not everyone has 256. It actually runs pretty
well, and still looks good on a 64M machine.

Generally, we run the latest drivers. These may be developer pre-release ones, but I don't think so.
