I think most of us use this version (Win98): http://www.matrox.com/mga/support/dr...es/w9x_610.cfm

That is what I am using.

Shortbus, post up what drivers you are using... look for the Power Desk version, that will suffice. Being a Matrox beta tester I am not running developer or public drivers, but ones that are a generation or so ahead of the rest of the world. Currently I'm testing this on a Matrox G450 32meg DDR and I can say, the game sucks only due to the slowness and graphical errors.
      Q3 doesn't have these issues.

BTW, your right, most don't have 256 megs (or more)... but it is reccommended by anyone who knows better that 128 is the minimum amount of mem needed to run properly and most users (gamers) already have this amount.

I had been running 6.11, but I'm not sure where it came from. When I downgraded to 6.10 like everyone else, the problem reappeared.

It looks like the r_ext_compiled_vertex_array fix is where it's at. The Q3 code specifically turns that off, and according to the comment the G400 drivers were broken and setting it to 0 fixed it.

I guess the drivers reversed themselves somewhere along the line, and both settings work in the future drivers like 6.11.

          Hey Shortbus,
The drivers you are referring to are prototype drivers and only for game developers, they fix many bugs including the Alice bug you are talking about, the reason why you got access to them since you're from Rogue Entertainment, hence you're a game developer, please don't talk about these drivers until they become public to avoid any confusion between the public drivers,

          Thanks,

Shortbus: Yes, please post a fix or my fix on your Web site for G400ers. I was surprised to see my fix on the home page for MURC, but that doesn't fix the slow down problems.

Where are you finding slowdown problems? Is it just generally slow, or do specific things slow down?

I am running the latest (non-public) betas with win98. The vertex_array problem was there for me as well, and Antdude's suggestion fixed me right up.

I have not played the whole demo yet, but what I have played, I've seen some horrible slideshow slowdowns. Two that come to mind are during the intro, when you make a righthand turn going down a hallway (not much af a prob, since you're not actually playing at that point), and in the room where there is a swaying clock, and you pick up the small potion. The battle with 3-4 baddies in that room was terribly slow (5fps or less). Once the bad guys where gone, it smoothed a little, but that room has a problem.

                I was playing 16bit/16bit, trilinear, 800x600.

                  Here is what I remember:
                  1) Intro cutscene (where you see the prison?) got choppy.
                  2) The room where its floor breaks to pieces, upstair.
                  3) When you enter the room to get the potion to shrink Alice. Look at the sky light.
                  4) When you fall into that pit (ferret's?). This is the worse one. It stalls! I the FPS went to 0!

I am sure there were more. Guys, what else did I miss to help Ritual Entertainment to fix this bug?

Hey, I think shortbus made a plan update about this problem: http://www.bluesnews.com/cgi-bin/fin...20001204195448

Too bad the bug is in the full version. Hopefully, we can get a patch to play it soon .

Just to throw another wrench in the gears here. I downloaded the demo (pretty good BTW) and it worked fine no adjustments needed so I check my PD version and heres what I found.

I did a search of my hard drives and back up cds and all I could find was the w9x_610.exe and w9x_604.exe I know I never installed that 610 because I was holding off. However I can't find any sign of 6.11 anywhere.

I also searched the Matrow web site and ftp site with no luck. Are me an Shortbus the only ones to get that version or what?

There is no slowdown when you use my TurboGL + OpenGL Optimized for Accuracy solution. There are a couple bugs with that though. First of all, the movies don't play. Second of all, preview pics aren't captured for save slots. I've tried combining both solutions, but with no new results.

According to mine (Information tab), it says I have Matrox PowerDesk: 6.20.028. I got the driver on the first day it came out (Windows 98 version).

i think I figured it out. I did some checking of the readmes and matched the PD version I have(6.11) to a beta6.01 file (6.01.015 with a date of 2000.07.06 in the readme) so the 6.11 is probly a typo but it also IMO means that the problem with Alice is actually with the drivers not the game, since it was working then the changed something for 6.10 that broke it.

That's because the pwoerdesk, drivers, etc . . . have different version numbers.
