In my experience quake3 seems to require higher framerates than other first person shooters, if you want an advantage, because the physichs-calculations is based on the framerate.
there is a lot of firstperson shooters where the difference between 75 fps and 200 fps is much smaller.
IMHO quake3 is the exception rather than the norm, in regards to framerates, and most GPUs nowadays handle the quake3 engine just fine anyway.
