Check in this reg-address for multiple cards and delete the old ones.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Code Store Database\Global Namespace\Java Packages\com\ms\directx

It helped me at least. Maybe there are more registry addresses which harbour multiple cards. Just search on DirectX.

Oh, and reboot after you edited the registry, to let the changes take part.

About TAW, did you have a G200 in your machine before this??
Check the registry on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\DID and then check for their D3D sublink. There has to be a link calling for videocards. Check if the registry has updated the change from a G200 to a G400...

Why? Because I have had this problem with lots of other games, which do not change their 'attitude' towards the videocard in the same slot, thus seek a G200 where they need the drive of a G400.

      Nuno:

That is *not* what I was imagining! I'm not sure what that is. Sorry 'bout that.

              System Shock 2, Descent 3

Locks up randomly (a la blue screen) when switching from menus to 3D mode.

This might just be my system, but I don't know

I have been able to solve the HL and TAW problems that I had. They were both related to the resolutions that the games use.

In Half-Life the problem it's that the higest resolution that HL offers (1280 x 960) it's not supported by the G400. Solution use one step lower resolution. I imagine in the future the new drivers may add that resolution, and I belive there is a also in the net a registry hack to incorporate that resolution into the card.

In Total Air War, the problem was that the screen parameters that the G400 uses for a 640 x 400 resolutions are not correct, and so the blank screen I was getting when using the Demo Mode. The solution was to use the PD, unselect simplified controls, and manually modify the wrong porch intervals for the 640 x 400 mode that TAW uses for the demo. The strange thing it's that the adjustment screen that appears for 640 x 400 it's a litle bit different that the one for 800 x 600, as if they were from different pieces of code.

In any case, my 21" COMPAQ V1000 monitor works just fine using windows-defined resolutions with my old Verite V1000 card, with no custom set-up at all. And the same applies to my old 15" monitor. So I really belive that there is something wrong with the default screen parameters, which I imagine would get fixed on new driver releases.

I just got a G400 & am eagerly trying all my games on it, heres two I haven't seen mentioned that have problems -

Falcon 4 + v1.07 patch (installed & patched before 1st run) crashes on trying to start with D3D switch.

Powerslide - lets me select the games options then hangs when starting a race.

I am using the matrox 5.15 drivers I grabbed from their site. The g400 seems great, I love the video output quality for DVD/Vcd , realplayer files & most other things seem great.

I have had no probs with halflife, Descent3 , Total Air War or Toca2 that other people have mentioned.

Maybe somebody already found this, During Half-Life when in a Multiplayer game and you hit escape to return into the menu, it doesnt give the image of the menu, instead it gives the last image you got during the game and the menu in behind it, very freakin annoying, and you probably don't even know what I just said, its hard to explain. Damn Matrox.

                      G400 32Mb OEM, PIII-450, 256 megs, ABIT-BE6 mobo:

5.13/15 drivers: System Shock gamma problems at 800x600 and higher res(seems to be res switching related).

5.21 drivers: System Shock still gamma probs, but serious tearing and visual flaws.

I also note that several people are suffering under the ABIT BE6 mobo - have u got one at matrox you could test?

Now that I've updated to 5.21, the Re-Volt demo still freezes, and expendable still crashes to the desktop immediately after launching.

I can't see the difference, can you see the difference?

FraZomBie, have you applied the latest patch to Mech3? I've tried the game with my older G200, V2-SLI before patching, and I've noticed some quirkiness (mostly game crashes that require that I reboot the entire machine). Before I even tried it on my G400Max (just got the board yesterday), I patched the game. I've been playing it a lot today, and the game looks and plays great.

When you installed Mech3, did you do a standard install, or did you do a custom install? For example, when I installed it, I opted to install all the additional texture sizes (2, 4, and 8MB). I'd try doing a complete de-install, and then try installing the game again, and double-check to make sure the additional textures are loaded. After that, install the patch.

Also, if you DID apply the patch, did you do a de-install first and then a re-install? On the mech3 page (www.mechwarrior3.com), it explicitly says to do that, or you might have problems. To be honest, I DIDN'T do a de-install myself, but then again I've only played it for a total of 20 minutes (using instant action) prior to today. =D

Hey, Cid - Check your resolutions. I had the same problem you did with HL "Stretching" too far up the screen. I restarted and it works in D3D now.

D3D is the only thing that works with multi monitor enabled. It's slow, but not as slow as OGL. It's slower than a V2 SLI rig, but I think that's just because I haven't tweaked it enough *twists a little knobby thing off with a pipewrench*.

R0M, think they can patch up the Matrox OGL drivers to operate in Multi-Monitor mode, or is that something which is out of Matrox's hands?

From the momment I installed the 5.21 drivers, "System Shock 2" looks bad.
All the doors wash out and change, I think you would call this tearing. also happens places other then doors.

Yes, SS2 with 5.21 has a problem with the tearing. As if the game doesn't keep us on edge already, the tearing will definitely do a number on our nerves. I reinstalled 5.13 and SS2 runs fine. I also have problems with Roller Coaster Tycoon running at 1024x768 (800x600 is fine). Once in the gameplay, the screen is black but running the mouse arround "restores" the screen, one black at a time! Anyone else experience this?
