Hmm.. since it is a demonstration, the effects are just in somewhat too tasteless way. They had to so that everyone would get what is happening. Or does anyone believe that Q4 would use such a motion blur as presented here?

Yet I stand behind my words on the usefullness of those effects when used with taste.

      Buuri:

Yes, the V4 uses motion blur EXACTLY as you see it there. Maybe better color saturation, but that's it.

You have to understand that DOF and Motion Blur are gimmicky silliness. The DOF especially, since DOF is defined not by the hardware but by where the viewer is looking, and unless the card has a built-in retinal tracker that feature will never work. Just can't, physically.

And Motion Blur is a side-effect of still images being retained by our retinas, not something that can be reproduced by a video card. All you get on the video card is a blurry image.

I just simply wonder who cares of NV10 and 3dfx Napalm, or whatever, because something completely marvellous is coming soon. A finnish company, called Bitboys Oy has announced their Glaze 3d chip, which offers 2400 MTexels/s. The rumours that I've heard of NV10 tell only below half of this. Glaze will have 9 Megs embedded memory plus up to 256 Megs off die memory. You can read the whole story in this adress www.bitboys.fi.

By the way, did you know, that Manoj Mahtani is old cocksucker who bought her first computer couple of months ago and now he thinks he knows everything. If he is stupid enough to preorder g400max he should live with the fact and be quiet or just simply shoot himself.

          Well DUH Gurm,

Of course Voodoo4 does produce motion blur that way, but I ment that no-one with any sense will use such shutter values as in that video.

Also you might to take a second to think how does the depth of field work in movies.
If you don't guess, it's the cinematographer (/director) who decides what the audience sees.
Now, are you saying that computer can't decide that? Just throw in some intelligence, like scanning the middle areas of the screen and focus on the nearest enemy. That's what you'd be looking anyway.

Do you usually get troubled in movies because you don't see things you'd like in focus? It can and will work just great in computer graphics too.

It's not a fault of the graphics card manufactorer if it's feature is not used properly, but one's who made the game.

            Metsi:

I'd love it if the Glaze were ever to get released, but since the last two products from Bitboys (Pyramid3D in 1997 and Glaze3D in 1998) were never released, we can't hold out too much hope for this release of Glaze3D.

            Buuri:

I understand, and agree with your point - that effects can be good if the programmers are talented. But these particular features are just a waste of time. I'm impressed with 3dfx's T-Buffer (if it works!), and some of the other technical merits of their as-yet-not-even-on-silicon V4. However, DOF and Motion Blur are silly.

As for movies and DOF, check this out. Have you noticed that modern pan-n-scan movies have this evil effect where it looks like someone has grabbed the whole background and just slid it around behind the foreground? Noticeable in the new Ghostbusters pan-n-scan, as well as quite alarmingly in "My Best Friend's Wedding". THAT is DOF as 3dfx would do it. Evil evil.

And I don't care how cunningly Motion Blur is coded, it still looks like mouse pointer trails. Ack! Blurring something to "simulate" retinal retention is stupid, since the retina will do the retention anyway, and it'll just look ghosty and blurry. Sorry.

              Here Here!
I'm on Gurm's side here. If something moves at 60fps anyway, the eye will see it blur naturally, won't it?

As a kindness (it's my job to be kind once a week) [shut *up*, Matt! ], I am going to clearly state for Manoj what to do to stop the "madness"...

Too bad no one will see it at the bottom of this very long thread...

                    Dear Manoj,

In all seriousness, I'm very sorry you haven't gotten your Max yet. I haven't ordered (or pre-ordered) any G400 card yet, but I certainly remember the 6 month wait (longer for others) for a working OGL ICD for my G200...guess you weren't here for the bitter complaints over that...

As far as what you should do regarding getting a video card, make a decision and carry it out. Whyever you decided to buy a G400, are those reasons no longer valid? Or is something else more important now? If so, then cancel your order, go to a store or an online store and buy something and be happy. If not, then take it like a man and wait.

It's your decision, and all the agonizing in the world won't make it for you.

As far as the forums go, you really came at this the wrong way. It is NOT APPROPRIATE to come onto the Matrox Hardware forum and say "some other card will be better than any Matrox card". If you really need to do that, go to the "General Hardware" forum on these boards. Especially if your intent was to complain about a Matrox-related hardware issue...you would have gotten many more appropriate responses if you had posted a thread like "Dammit, where is my G400MAX???"!!!" Had you done that, you might have even gotten a response from Michael A, who ought to know (it's his job, as a Matrox Sales Group Supervisor). But your subjects were going to rub us the wrong way, even before we read the threads...

I agree, you could make a case that many of us have taken this too far....hey, that's the life of a newbie, buddy. Prove you can take *that* like a man, and you're golden around here...for what that's worth. It is, after all, just the Internet...you might try to remember that...

Or, you can just call us childish (we are, and proud of it) and ignore us, but there's no way that coming back with that supposed "rational adult" thing is going to do you any good when *this* board is on a roll... actually, that's the fastest way to lose points (as you have found).

Play *with* us, Manoj...we're actually pretty useful, and often lots of fun. But you have to play by the rules, that's all....

And GT98...welcome in! Certainly do like your style, Scott... you'll be a fine asset to the Legionaires of the Church of M...
