dZeus: It's from a (generic) question, with no statemnt given to be represented by P. The question is:

Rewrite each of tge following statements so that negations only appear within predicates (that is, so that no negation is outside a quantifier or an expression involving logical connectives).

      a) ...
      b) ...
      c) ...
      d) ...
      e) The one given above!

        Rags: wtf?

Here's 2 I can add to the acronyms!

Richard of York gave battle in vain. (no prizes for this one)

My very early morning jam sandwiches usually nauseate people. (a small prize for this one )

Pace - I think that the answer is something like

              Ex(AyEz¬P(x,y,z) OR (AzEy¬P(x,y,z))

Thats at least slightly wrong, but I can't remember the laws for negating the existential and universal quantifiers properly. If you could post them I could probably give the right answer (I found this stuff really easy, but all of 6 months later I can't remember the rules )

              Oh yeah

Steve, I believe you have sinned, cos I've never had such a tan from Southend-on-sea

And Raptor, my friends find that easy too, but I just don't have a clue - don't know what it is, I mean I consider myself fairly competent in computing and maths, but combining the two in this abstract POS just loses me! Ok, don't get me started!

PS: The lecturer wears (wArEz?) poofy red trousers (apologies to any poofs or red trouser wearers - but not to a combination )

First one with correct answer (with explanation of the series) wins the respect of everyone else on these boards (not!)

Actually, I may start a new thread with some more teasers - I've got a couple of good ones...

                              The series is actually:

Pace - its odd that everyone you know finds that stuff easy, because all my mates thought it was impossible

I've got a feeling that the above answer could be right, I was getting confused with skolemising and thought there should be some constant appearing somewhere
