Well... Media Is having a field day!

They are going to capitalaze on it in weeks to come...

And everyone who thiks that they "know" anything significant is on the tub.

    BTW:
They only have pictures on one tower falling, has anyone seen fotage of the other tower colapsing?

Didn't a Big plane colide with the Empire State Bilding and became hanging there?
If there's artificial intelligence, there's bound to be some artificial stupidity.

I only saw the 2nd collapse. I think the only camera vantage point at the time of the first caused it to be obscured. All we saw was a big cloud of dust and thought for a while there had been an explosion.

Can any of you guys remind me where Chase-Manhattan bank is? I have a relative who would have been there at the time.

      Tony.

        it is a sad day...

I'd also like to offer my deepest sympathies to anyone (relatives, friends, ...) touched by this.

It just seems so unreal how some people and a couple of minutes can ruin thousands of lives, alter many thousands lives more, and destroy an icon of the Western world... (not to mention the worldwide economical and political consequences)

After WWI, a monument was erected here in Belgium, it read "no more war". Just that simple. Why doesn't everybody think that way ?
        I don't get it....

The second tower fell a few minutes after the first. They seemed to fall straight down like they were emploded, but the debris flowed down the cooridor type streets in all directions. The bulidings that were around the buildings were surely destroyed as well.

For those of you that don't know, the World Trade Center buildings are two 110 story towers that dominated the New York skyline. They housed over 1,000 businesses and had around 50,000 people working in them daily.

I had this all written out once already, but the browser crashed (Netscape for Unix).

Fact update: All domestic flights are grounded and accounted for. A few planes are still coming in from abroad, and some don't have the fuel to reroute to Canada.

The loss of all this life is truely sorrowing. Terrorist actions have neither justification nor excuse. However, I have to agree a lot with Dancray. The US is not innocent either. We've been supporting Israel's racist policies and terrorist attacks for a while. If any other country had carried out the reign of terror that the IDF is carrying out, we would have send in a US "peacekeeper" force long ago. Instead we actually provide the weaponry for their poaching of Palestinian land and lives.

I'm not at all condoning any acts of terrorism, but the US isn't innocent either. Look at Desert Storm. We completely eraticated Iraq's infrastructure. We are responsible for 60-80,000 civilian deaths in Iraq. How? We bombed and graphite bombed the power stations. The same ones that feed water purification plants. Scores of thousands died of disease. And why? Hussein is still in power, and has more sway than he ever did. We destroyed the country, gave false hope of a revolution, and walked out.

Indiana: How the hell can you talk like that? What racist comments. If we were going to get rid of constant troublemakers, then Germany should have been first on the list, right? It's already at the heart of TWO World Wars, why give them a chance for another? Damn Nazis.
Sounds like a different argument now, doesn't it? Well, there are some wonderful people from all those countries, and you're stereotyping based on a very poor sample of their population.

I winder how long time it will take to clean up this mess..., but it will take longer time to come over the worst disaster in the history of united states "yet" The reason I'm saying this is because there are lit of crazy pepole out there!

My deepest sympathies to all U.S. residents.

I want to point out, though, that over and above the immediate human tragedy, this horrific event affects many who are not U.S. residents. I am a citizen living outside the country and my only family lives in NYC and Washington D.C. I can't reach them, as international phone service is off, not to mention that I just heard phones are down in my hometown (NYC) as well. If email works, neither of my aunts has it anyway. I have no way to confirm that they're safe and healthy. Families of foreign tourists to NYC or D.C. have a similar problem, and furthermore, their friends or families (if safe) are trapped in the US, and American tourists to other countries cannot return. US military personnel probably cannot reach their families, and their families may not be able to reassure themselves that the "high alert" status all over the world does not mean that their loved ones are (relatively) safe for the moment.

But that is, again, personal to individuals. There is at least one global issue I can see... the NYC financial market has been toasted. It would be hard enough to recover from this event under normal circumstances, but this has occurred just months before Europe implements its unified currency. The global economy is going to have a tough time adjusting to both the US and Europe being freaky, money-wise. Half the West is on "alert" or "standby" or "panic"... gods only know what might happen next.

So don't think you're alone, Americans... we all want to find and eat these bastards. Just point 'em out.

                  Holy shit.

This is...terrible. No other word to describe it. Targeting CIVILLIANS?? Just terrible and cowardly.

This is something I never thought I would see in my life. But I did. I saw the collapse of the first tower with my own eyes (did not see the second one though). The WTC has been there all of my (short) life and I never thought that one day it would simply be gone. This morning, when I looked toward Manhattan I saw the towers just like I always had. After school, when I looked toward Manhattan, I saw nothing but smoke. My father saw the 767 roar overheard as he drove to work and smash into the tower. I don't really support war because of the loss of life that it causes, but after something like this...hell, they all deserve to die.

I offer my deepest sympathies to the ones who have lost relatives.

An Atrocity against Humanity occurred in the States today.
For what ever reason, it was still an atrocity.
Thousands of human beings will have died today, please can we respect them today and sort out the political ramifications later.

Hey motub, you said you cannot reach your family here in NYC yet? If you want, it might seem awkward, but I live in NYC, Brooklyn and I can call them, if you give me their number, and give them your name and say you are trying to contact them and ask if everything is ok.

My condolences to all those who had lost family members.
Now should know you I have not stupid!

The person they believe is most likely responsible for this atrocity is Osama Bin Laden, he is currently hiding in Afganistan and has access to a large ammount of money and resources. He was responsible for the bomb at the World Trade Center 8 years ago and also the bombing of American embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. He seems to have a problem with western democrasy and in particular the USA and works with a network of small extreme groups. He trains them and gives them the resources to carry out these attacks. It would seem from this that the troubles in the middle east are not the direct cause of this attack even if some of the groups he works with are involved.

The only way I can see for this to end without further loss of inocent lives is by the Taleban leaders handing over this man for trial. This seems unlikely and will no doubt lead to further violence in America, Europe, Afganistan and the Middle East.

What sickens me is they use religion as an excuse for mindless killing yet I know of no religion which condones such actions.

Regardless of your beliefs there can be no justification for this action.
When you own your own business you only have to work half a day. You can do anything you want with the other twelve hours.

Man, I´m also all into pacifism, non-violence, that kind of stuff.

But when I saw those palestinians jumping and celebrating in awe because some half-dozen sick cowards killed thousands of people, I´ve got no problem in admiting they DO deserve the same. Maybe then they stop that sick celebration because of other people are dead.

They brainwash their own CHILDREN in summer camps in order to hate ocidentals and to become suicide bombers.

As far as I´m concerned, opressed people or not, they a a bunch of fanatic sick ****s.
