I don't think that anyone actually is arguing for cannabis to be treated the same as tobacco by society - it can only really be compared to alcohol in that it inebriates.

And we cope quite happily in most non-muslim countries with alcohol as a relaxant and social lubricant - why not cannabis as well? If legislation were to be accompanied by campaigns highlighting the health risks, I have absolutely no problem at all. In fact I do have a slight problem of an acceptance that it goes on, but illegality at the same time.

Tabacco contains niccotine, which is a drug no matter what why you look at it. Its effects may be mild compared to the THC in marijuana, but like paracetamol and caffine, it is still considered a drug.

When I was sixteen I followed my edler brother and started smoking. One day I bought 10 cigarettes and chain smoked them. At that point I decided that enough was enough, that I never wanted anything to make me feel as if I MUST have another so I quit. I am an occasional drinker. I never feel as if I MUST have another drink. I can go out and feel good without having a drink. I have never smoked ganja, and believe me I lived most of my life in Jamaica where we grow the best stuff. I have inhaled second hand weed smoke and it has no noticeable effect on me. Now to the question at hand. In jamaica I would not want it to be legalised. If that happened a lot of the weed sellers would have to find something else to do as the "big men" would step in and control tyhe local market as they now do the international market. This invariably would leed to an upsurge in crime as the displaced weed sellers would see that as their only way out (most of them anyway)

Let me just state that I am not saying that second hand smoke does not have an effect on me. I am saying that there were no noticeable SHORT TERM effects on me.

Well nearly having my head mashed in by someone high on cannabis and seeing someone else who had their head bashed in by someone using cannabis I don't think we should legalise it. It's bad enougth with all the piss heads driving around and getting grumpy without adding too it.

I've honestly never seen a violent pot (only) smoker. I've seen more damage done buy whiskey drinkers. As greebe said, sounds like what they were on was laced, or not hemp at all

Even if they were just on pot, surely this is an argument for prohibition (of alcohol) rather than against legalisation of cannabis? (sort of )

And lest we forget there are ALWAYS fools out there looking to mash peoples heads in, and they just need pot/alcohol as the excuse. A moron is a moron, no matter what he/she smokes/drinks.
