When they release the Directors cut of "The Fellowship" you will get an extended scene of Moria. It should be good!

Zokes, the problem is that the Moria part is almost wrong from the beginning to the end...for the way it has been rappresented and for some of the solution choose and used.
And if you think that Moria is one of the best part in the first book...

Wow...there are some really nit picky LotR fans here on MURC.

        1) The meat of the story doesn't take place in Hobbiton, so no need to dwell there any longer than needed to develop story. Tom Bombadil was expendible and so were the Burrow Downs. The Downs would have been cool, but there are any number of ways to get a mgical blade into the hobbit's hands.

        2) Although a 15 hour Fellowship movie would have been kool, it's simply not feasible. With the advent of inexpensive, good special effects, I can almost garuntee that someone, like a BBC/Major US network or Sci-fi channel, will make a LotR mini-series. Then, when the show is 15-hours long each book, you can complain about leaving stuff out

        3) There are two rules of creating a surprise. The first rule is never tell anyone everything you know.

        4) Can't wait for the Two Towers.

No, it will only add 30 minutes.

            What was wrong with Moria???

The sword part is messed up, but there is a reason. It allows for more of the love story between Aragorn and Arwen. More will come out in the next movie.

The problem with Moria was... well, it goes back to Rivendell.

The movie gives you the impression that the fellowship were all there to talk about the ring. In fact, NONE of them were there for that purpose, and none of them even knew of the ring except in rumor and legend.

Gimli (and his father Gloin) were there to report that Sauron was looking for Hobbits - and had offered them some of the dwarf rings of power as a reward for pointing the way to the shire. They of course refused... and sent Gimli to warn the other races of the danger.

Legolas was there to report that Gollum had escaped from his father's dungeons (the same ones the dwarves got trapped in in the Hobbit, which Bilbo sprung them from quite easily - not very GOOD dungeons, apparently).

Boromir was there because he had a vision and the wise men told him to seek the wisdom of the elves, but none of them knew where rivendell was, so he spent a year trying to find it.

But back to my original point - Gimli was there ALSO to ask for aid in going to seek his cousin Balin in Moria... see, they had lost communication and he was worried about them.

The movie makes it out like he had NO IDEA that there was anything bad going on in Moria.

*shrug* The rest of it wasn't too bad. The room with the tombstone was about the way I pictured it in the book, although the layout of the mine as a whole was... umm... *shrug*

Bakshi. I knew that. My bad.

I was more fascinated by the extensive rotoscoping used to create the animation. Very disappointed in the non-ending, tho.

                    That's completely true.

I must concur. A book is able to convey much more emotional information and is far more immersive than any film based on the book can be. It reaches the reader at a more visceral level, and forces one to use the imagination to create the visual environment. No motion picture, no matter how well produced, can match that.

No no. The movie was good. Jackson cut a lot of stuff, and I wouldn't always agree with what was and wasn't cut. But he did an EXCELLENT job, given that he had EXACTLY 3 hours to work with.

P.S. Looking at this point like TTT will be 3.5 hours long.

But obviously, with the way you guys are talking about it the book is far better.

I wouldn't mind watching 45 hours of LOTR (15 hours per book) if it means that it follows the book exactly. Make it a series available on DVD. It would take forever to watch but I think it would be good!

Moria part IMHO should be an horror like, not a Indiana Jones clone!

There is often too light and it miss suspance
The armour falling into the pit (not that Pit) is "forced" (sorry, maybe wrong term)
What is the sense in having huge rooms, distant camera points if the HUGE AND FEARFUL ORCS result in tiny monster acting like spiders?

Why the hell the Balrog is totally wrong?

Why so much action and so few atmosphear?

45 hours long...or about 90 half hour TV spots. You could have a hit TV series running for about 5 years with that much material. Not to mention that the Hobbit and Silmarilion (sp?) would tag on a few extra TV seasons.

The Balrog was 100% right. What was "wrong" about it?
