  • back to speculations :P

i`ve finally registered. it`s my first post ever so i can only hope this one will look nice enough:

OK, so Ant posted few times that SOME of us
should be ready to spend ca. $1000

    sounds too much to me...

but how about dividing it in 4/6 or 3/7 proportion
    i mean like
$300-400 for the Parhelia-based card (maybe SOON™ shall appear as the market name
    instead of G-whatever_new )
    and...
$700-600 for the third (i assume You already HAVE two) CRT/LCD
to ...fully exploit the potential of the new Tripple-Head design
They say, that "If there were no one to watch them drive by, how many people would buy a Mercedes?". Are We exceptional or Matrox is?

      • As VigilAnt mentioned in his post, it seems there will be a range of Parhelia based products, they won't be cheap my thinking is the bottom of the range will start around GF4 prices, say $300 and the top of the range will be around 3DLabs offerings at $1000 or more.

        • Thats probably a good guess, going by the hints youve dropped.

If they are going for the 3dLabs group, then those other hints about openGL drivers being done by SGI make sense too.

I personally think Matrox have done a great job on the openGL drivers. They had a slow start, but they are pretty damn good now.

Sounds like I should try to talk the new wife into letting me spend around US$700 for a nice mid-range Matrox card

Not so bad when you think about it. My 12Mb voodoo2 SLi and Millenium2 AGP set up cost about that when I bought them.

Two cards for the price of one. What a bargain

            • well... my first comment in this forum... I'd better make it good..:

SOON™ is just not good enough.
SOON™ Means; sure this is what we wish we could have released two years ago.
SOON™ Is another word for complete failiure to acomplish what is expected of a Chip manufacturer today...

I'm sorry, bu Matrox is bye bye... (I still Like my Mystique though!)

And last... Just look at bitboys.. SOON™ is their motto... and by the time they actually make their ultratexel-dualinvetred chips we'll be beaming around the next galaxy looking for that mojo-thing... (God i need some sleep..) I hope you all got my point though.

              • Hmm.. I guess one comment was just not really enough..

Ok, this is the deal; Ant and the guys have been hinting to this and that... but I'm not really convinced anyway... To take the step into PRO cards is not really what I'd expect matrox to do, specially NOT PRO 3D cards!!!, I mean the havent even got openGL working well yet...!! (dohhhh) And they have not even released one single low-end card that provides more than mediocre 3D... Guys.. just forget it!! (there is a Wildcat3 out there, and it will crush Matrox in any possible way in 3D....guaranteed!

There might be a chance though that they might be aiming towards that high quality video market (still 2D)... their RT2500 was most impressive.
And in that case I can see that card with 4vga-out easily... but hey.. is it what most of us are looking for?
(Gamers; the GF4 is out... )

                  Who cares about the GF4?

                    • Just because someone has not done something before does not mean they never will. nVidia at one point had never made a decent 3D peforming card, now they do, but by your reckoning they never should have. By that reckoning life on Earth would never have evolved to its current state.

All I can say is that we will all just have to wait and see, if I am proved wrong I will happily eat humble pie, how about yourself?

                        Anyways...

Slingon: that's the main reason why they are doing it. No one expects that!

I really wish I'm wrong, seriously! But being realistic... Go for the Wildcat3 6110 if you got the cash and stop dreaming...(now THAT is a "PRO" card!

If I'm right we'll just be stuck with another "half-way" 2D card...

Lets hope that something happen SOON™.....
