I am wondering the same thing. Here is my guess. Although the block diagram shows the HDTV scaler and decoder, I fear that this part of the chip will nto make it into the final silicon since they gave about ZERO pieces of information about it during the press release. If for some reason they do use it for something, I'm guessing that all it means is, the chip has a 10-bit encoder/decoder and therefore will help with quality when outputting to monitor or TV. I'm further guessing that the TV out will only be S-video at the most. But hey! what do I know, I'm not a beta tester nor do I have any inside info.

Ladies and gentlemen, take my advice, pull down your pants and slide on the ice.
Every 8500 based card with DVI does support component out. ATi just hasn't yet released the extra hardware needed to support it. They say they will release it at a later date (dare I say Soon...).
What I really want in Parhelia is Video-input. But it seems like that's not gonna happen.
Primary system specs:
Asus A7V266-E | AthlonXP 1700+ | Alpha Pal8045T | Radeon 8500 | 256mb Crucial DDR | Maxtor D740X 40gb | Ricoh 8/8/32 | Toshiba 16X DVD | 3Com 905C TX NIC | Hercules Fortissimo II | Antec SX635 | Win2k Pro
With a 10-bit HDTV/DVD video decoder, I would be very upset if there was not at least an adaptor for component out. Guess we won't know until final specs. Or until Haig or R0M hops over and tells us.

The Radeon8500is able to do component video out, you just need a DVI -> component adapter. I've read that you do not specifically need ATIs adapter, but other DVI->component ones are OK, too.
However since I'm not lucky enough to have a HDTV TV, I can't test it myself.
Q31: Is component output enabled with the initial shipment? How do I get component output?
A31: No, component output is not available with the initial shipment. However, you will be able to purchase an upgrade package with DVI to YPrPb dongle from ATI which will be available in 2002. HDTV Support: 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i. For DVD & Macrovision support: 480i & 480p. The RADEON™ 8500 supports Interlaced and progressive scan HDTV.

I have no info to add to this about component outputs or not but,

...PS - RGB out instead of component would be a cock up.
But it'd still be better than having just S-vid or composite. Most TVs can do RGB in on the SCART socket (at least in europe) now, but not many can do component out.
I hope they have every possible connector! (or at least the pinouts to make our own)
