  • Will Parhelia offer component video out

    Well...?

PC video on big screen HDTV
Needs a new vid card. Can't wait much longer.

im not really sure what you mean, i don´t know anything about video out, but maybe you could take a look here:
This sig is a shameless atempt to make my post look bigger.

      Thanks for the link, however...

There are references to 10 bit HDTV decoding/scaling, RAMDACs & 10bit TV/Video encoder. There is nothing about component output.

      Need more info, less fluff.

        Component output?
        Never heard of it...
Is it composit output you are thinking about...?
But S-VHS output is better that composit...

Component video has three RCA type output connectors, one each for Y, Cb, Cr.

Component video quality is better than S, just like S is better than composite.

HDTV sets can be driven with component video out.
HDTV is broadcast now, like say for the coming World Cup.

A true HDTV video on a good set looks like you could reach inside.

            HI Tantalus,

I am wondering the same thing. Here is my guess. Although the block diagram shows the HDTV scaler and decoder, I fear that this part of the chip will nto make it into the final silicon since they gave about ZERO pieces of information about it during the press release. If for some reason they do use it for something, I'm guessing that all it means is, the chip has a 10-bit encoder/decoder and therefore will help with quality when outputting to monitor or TV. I'm further guessing that the TV out will only be S-video at the most. But hey! what do I know, I'm not a beta tester nor do I have any inside info.

Well, that would be a pity. Even the Radeon8500 is supposed to support component-out
But we named the *dog* Indiana...

AFAIK, the 8500 does NOT support component out.

Every 8500 based card with DVI does support component out. ATi just hasn't yet released the extra hardware needed to support it. They say they will release it at a later date (dare I say Soon...).

What I really want in Parhelia is Video-input. But it seems like that's not gonna happen.

With a 10-bit HDTV/DVD video decoder, I would be very upset if there was not at least an adaptor for component out. Guess we won't know until final specs. Or until Haig or R0M hops over and tells us.

Threw a new rig together in Feb, & bin waiting for the right vid card.

The right vid card has component vid out. Vid in would be nice.

Matrox has trumpeted features & quality. This would be a bad time to drop the ball.

PS - RGB out instead of component would be a cock up.

Or have a look at ATI video whitepaper, page 8

The Radeon8500is able to do component video out, you just need a DVI -> component adapter. I've read that you do not specifically need ATIs adapter, but other DVI->component ones are OK, too.
However since I'm not lucky enough to have a HDTV TV, I can't test it myself.

Q31: Is component output enabled with the initial shipment? How do I get component output?

A31: No, component output is not available with the initial shipment. However, you will be able to purchase an upgrade package with DVI to YPrPb dongle from ATI which will be available in 2002. HDTV Support: 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i. For DVD & Macrovision support: 480i & 480p. The RADEON™ 8500 supports Interlaced and progressive scan HDTV.

But it'd still be better than having just S-vid or composite. Most TVs can do RGB in on the SCART socket (at least in europe) now, but not many can do component out.

I hope they have every possible connector! (or at least the pinouts to make our own)
