But they didn't say which GeForce4... They leave that up to YOUR imagination. My Imagination says 2X as fast as a GeForce 4 MX 420
Imagine that!
In all seriousnous, its all hype, and I for one won't buy into it.
I hope that you all take what you hear about the NV30 with a HUGE grain of salt. Claims are one thing. The facts will present themselves in a few months.
Since nVidia has nothing up their sleeves right now, all they have is hype till their release (which has been delayed SOOOOOO much)
This may be way off, but Vigilant said "just keep your eyes peeled for some breaking information later this week", which was last week.... Now what was the major news last week.......... DOOM3 Alpha... Since this is the Crystal ball did Vigilant now anything about this.........
Xian> VigilAnt leaked it.
........
Xian> John sent him a flame mail yesterday basically saying "This has hurt our relationship"
....
Xian> yeah, well, VigilAnt has clearly violated our NDA
.....
Xian> We know VigilAnt leaked it. We watermark all releases
Those NV30 slides remind me of marketing at work... loads of "facts" which don't actually say anything when you actually read them and bulked out with fun-facts which just cover up that there is nothing to show...
There appears to be nothing the NV30 has to offer other than more speed... and going by NVidia's past history it's likely to require a seperate vapour stage cooling block and if ATI's latest piece is anything to go by your gonna need a seperate mains power cable running into the back of the card
If Matrox's past performance is anything to go by (ala G200 - G400) they have defined the basis of the Parhelia (Triple-head, high quality, expencive) and will only better this by a massive factor in upcoming releases (Faster, higher quality and lower cost).
I just hope Matrox get there finger out and bundle some spangly "Powered by Matrox" stickers in the next (and future) releases!!!
AFAIK the over-hype kind of thing is a matrox quality, not nV (come ON ant... i'm dissing matrox please let vigilant to release the news) okay just kidding... take ur time.
let's all hope parhelia II (as a full DX9 part to compete with others on paper) will be like the jump from G200 to G400...
that would be wonderful: matrox standing at the top of the industry. But IMO it's not likely to happen soon, according to vigilant's report on matrox's current situation, because they lack the funding, management, and the best engineers they had years ago. After all, stuffing things like 128-bit internal colour percision, PS2.0, and possibly 8 pipes etc is a load of works, and this "partial-redesign" process will cost matrox a lot of money. (chip deisgn is expensive). Besides, i bet nV and ATI grabbed a lot of talented engineers from Matrox... sigh...
the difference between the G-series era and now is the company's changed repetition. i.e. in the past matrox was regarded as a legendary/superior chip/PCB layout specialist who made extremely high quality stuff with the best 2d/3d/video/DAC output, and could afford to sell their products at high price for the most high-end users.... their chips were known to be completely flawless also. But now IMO the parhelia have ruined this repetition. nevermind the anisotropic/FAA issue, the windowed bending issue is just an unexceptable flaw... after all, no one would accept that flaw to be found on ANY gfx chip. sadly it sounds like a beta hardware design problem...
i think we should start two partitions to tell matrox the followings:
1) put in a "powered by matrox" logo... by doing that all MURCers will buy the entire package, whether it will cost them a head and a leg
2) IMPLANT RSN DAMN IT!!!!!! skip HeadCasting 2.0... honestly nobody really needs that thing... so that nVidiots and ATI will be inflected with MAD. (Matrox-addictive disease )

Offtopic: Even R9700 is twice as fast as GF4... (when using antialiasing and aniso) Phrase: product 'X' has twice the performance of product 'Y' tells you absolutely nothing, if benchmark parameters are not shown.
Topic related: Vigilant are you trying to get maximum amount hits on your site or what? It's not very professional to promise something you can't deliver - imo it makes you look lame.
Hey snowwhite, you genius you....
In case you haven't figured it out, hits hurt MURC, not help it. This bandwidth is all paid for by the owner. There are no banner ads here, or anything else, so page views are worthless.
With only one post, I doubt you've taken the time to educate yourself about anything here. VigilAnt has delivered accurate and impressive news many times in the past, and when it was delayed, it was either to clarify or verify a point, or the situation was changing right at that very moment.
The only "lame" one here is you.
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

Seems to be a trend in the industry nowadays, amidst paper launches, late (very late) launches, and exaggerated hype...dump those dwarfs and get with the times!!
