Good? Yeah, I guess "good" is a fair description. It used to be "great" though.
It went down to "good" after:
* They didn't follow through and help people get the Zoran DVD hardware decoder working.
* They didn't support the Marvel and other products in W2K
* You were a buyer of the eTV, and were silly enough to expect drivers
* They bungled Linux support
* They got this stupid idea that they could charge money for custom resolutionsGigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

Yeah, now you can. But remember when the initial drivers didn't even have 1280x960? Matrox was going to make you pay up for "custom" resolutions, as Ant reported it. At least there's one f*ck-up that Matrox decided not to pull off.Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Marvel was not a Matrox Graphics part.
I agree with the Linux support argument, but that doesn't make them a whole lot worse than the other two.
The charge for custom resolutions fell through thanks to MURC straightening their thinking out. I never happened anyhow.
You get the best support for your card when dealing with Matrox. Getting an RMA is not simpler anywhere, and you get next to real time support due to the dedication at Matrox's own forums.
In the end, if you like Matrox's card for what it offers today, you will probably like it even better two years from now because of that support. Hope for features that don't exist is not included.

Yes. We got majorly bitten by the purchase of a lot of the G200 Marvel's only to find the support dropped for Win2k. I have a lot of experience with products that have been made obselete. We have now 5 defunct G200 Marvels, mainly replaced with the eTV Marvel, 10 digimix cards, and so many g200, g400 and g450 cards. The drivers often have been probrematic, although we are pushing the machines rather hard.
Hence my worry about the parhelia, a card that doesn't really have a lot of future as far as I can see unless the video and consumer divisions of Matrox work together a bit more.

VigilAnt, I give you MY full authority to post the news. jk
Kidding! Just kidding! :: Ducks thrown tomatoes ::
To those waiting for the news.
You know, if you've read the stuff said so far, loads of people at Matrox HQ seems to be reading this place often enough. Thats probably why VigilAnt needs the full go ahead before posting news that might be affecting Matrox people in one way or another.
Just all guess work here by the way (Hey, this IS the Crystal Ball section you know?)

I want Matrox to kick some ass so badly, but they aren't going to buy out the big guys for a long time; unless they manage to go 15-20% than the next gen GPUs, in which case, they probably could Matrox dominates the world!X
