Agreed, but overall it can't touch a modern sports car. Like I said, it's mostly just good as a nostalgic collectible toy.

Modern sports cars are fine if you like sewing machine engines.

My sentiments exactly. We really need to find a smiley that sums it up as well as you did.

        I guess will work.

Something 99.99999% of modern sports will never be. Proves the worth of each machine in my books.

You cannot compare these vehicles to modern sports cars. They are not even in the same class.
They started the genre of the Muscle Car - spartan except for a massive piece of iron under the front hood.
They were designed to do one thing really well: tear up pavement.
These were cars with attitude and character, and believe me, driving one of these would command a heck of a lot more respect than driving a BMW. - In my neck of the woods anyway.

Are you calling the M5's 400HP 5.0L V8 a sewing machine engine? Or the new M5's 500HP V10? That's net horsepower too, not gross like the muscle cars were measured with...
Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. Bastard coated bastards with bastard filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive, bubble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine. -- Dr. Perry Cox

Just a big sewing machine engine

Realistically, you can't compare the pre-1970 muscle cars with the $50-100k cars you are talking about.

My reference to sewing machine engines is an old stereotype I was using in jest. Sorry. Technology marches on...

(They are still not worth the money from my bank account, even if I could afford to buy and maintain one)

I am with GT40 on this

Another thing, I don't consider the M5 to be a sports car. They are luxury performance sedans. By no stretch of the imagination could you consider a HemiCuda a luxury anything.

and if it is not because of their style, it's because they won't run anymore due to lack of working (compatible) electronic parts.

I'm with GT40 and Brian on this as well, M5s (and the like) just aren't the head turners that these old beauties are. (Though Brian, personally I like some early 1970s models )

The GM A-Body cars (Chevelle, Cutlass) handled well with just the addition of polyurethane suspension bushings all around and modern radial tires. Deeper mods, such as aftermarket tubular front upper and lower control arms, would really improve the handling capabilities.

I had a '72 Chevelle SS 454 replicant from '92-'95 that was set up for the road the first year I had it, and it was a very exciting car to drive on the expressways.
