thanks for informing me... but why is that the case? is a bare breast considered 'immoral' in the US?

what's up next? forcing women to wear burkas?

It's just a different standard. e.g. I gather that some companies in the US[*] have a no-beards office policy, something that sounds silly at best in Europe. It's not that beards are considered immoral or anything, it's just a different standard of appearance.
[*] Sorry dZeus, I don't know where you are, but I assume you're not in the US.
Blah blah blah nick blah blah confusion, blah blah blah blah frog.

That's one heck of a nipple ring. Please tell me that it "goes with the outfit" and isn't her "daily wear" piercing?

For them to say this stunt was "unintentional" is an insult to the intelligence of their viewers. This was obvioulsy planned. MAYBE CBS didn't know about it, but I'd bet MTV did. Definatly Janet and Justin knew what they where doing.
While I was not offended by it, I am glad my kids where not watching at the time.
Now, how "outraged" CBS is will be seen by next weekend, when Janet is scheduled to perform on the Grammy awards. If CBS is really upset about it, they will pull her from that show. More likely (IMO) this is just another publicity stunt, trying to boost ratings for that show.

Yes its stupid....its one of those cultural things that make the US different from Europe. Its sorta like we like gratuous volience in movies and you guys don't
Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

She also is supposed to have a new album coming out in a month or 2. I guess she wanted to have her name back in the spotlight, and since the liplocking duo of Spears & Madonna raised the bar, I guess Janet needed to raise it even further.

I also find it strange that everyone BUT Janet has apologized in one way or another. Albeit most of the apologies were not really apologies, but more like I'm sorry to those who don't like it, but there was nothing wrong in what happened.

Still frustrated at the whole incident

And lets not ignore that in Ontario....just across the Detroit River from here....the law since 1997 has been that women can go bare-breasted in public and not just on beaches. Note that a lot of people are up in arms about it though....

The basis of both the Canadian ruling and one by the New York State appeals court in 1992 is that women have an equal rights claim to go topless given that men can go topless without prosecution. The NY ruling was regarding a woman wearing an open-weave fishnet top in public. We'll see how this plays out, but IMO it'll not expand outside its current locales in the US absent the US Supreme Court ruling in favor of it.

That said this is one of the issues where I'm in the middle. I have no problem with nudity at all, but think for comities sake it should be limited to some parks and some beaches and not to public streets. IF one has a problem with your family being exposed to nudity then at least there is a choice.

This because of my experiences in Ontario where I've seen topless windshield cleaners at stoplights and other such displays. Try explaining that to your kids sometime

It is silly that toplessness is such a big deal here.

No in America they pump out the breast milk and throw it away, buy a bottle and special formula and feed it to the kid. Gets them used to cold, impersonal capitalism. One of the very stupid things about this country.

Obviously our kids have since my wife breast fed all of 'em and didn't hide from the older ones while doing so with the younger ones. We've also been to clothing optional beaches with the family, but the kids have not seen nudity in public places because we do live in the US and most places that is illegal.

In a mixed society like the US where you have all manner of cultural traditions vs. nudity some adjustments for comities sake are necessary. Restricting public nudity in some manner is one of the least 'em.

                              BTW:

the US FCC (Federal Communications Commission) is going to investigate the Superbowl incident. Yes; they have the power to fine heavily those involved.
