That city wouldn't happen to be on the River Inn, would it? Maybe it's name would suggest there is a bridge there? Maybe it hosted the Winter Olympics there (I think twice, if my memory is right)?
Seriously, the architecture could only be Austrian or possibly Bavarian (but the flags ruled that out), but the proximity of the Alps ruled out most places and it cried out the Tirol. Well, there ain't many largish places in the State, so Innsbruck was my first thought, even before I looked for the copyright-holder to confirm it.
It really belongs to SF, but I'll post a new one, presently.
Well, if you draw a line from Cairo to Teheran, for example, it certainly is not in a country that line would touch (no matter which map projection you use). As a rough guide, I would guess that the city in question would be about 500 km away from that line, at its nearest point. Does that help?
Yup! I have to add that I have permission to reproduce that photo from the governmental Press and Information Office of the Republic of Cyprus.
To add some politics, you see here the only divided capital city in the world, with an uncrossable wall across the middle. You can't see it but roughly 2/3 of the circular city nearest the camera is the free zone and 1/3 and all the countryside behind you can see is in the occupied zone.
My first reaction was India, but then I saw the cross on the top of the hill and realised that was less likely. E.Europe??? I think I like the idea of ex-Yugoslavia???
