Rioting in French suburbs 'well organized'
    Thu Nov 03 2005 14:56:34 ET

French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy said Thursday that the riots in several Paris suburbs over the previous night were "not spontaneous" but rather "well organized."

"What we saw in the department of Seine-Saint-Denis overnight was not spontaneous, it was perfectly organized. We are looking into by whom and how," Sarkozy told French news channel i-tele.

The interior minister also said the government would not allow "troublemakers, a bunch of hoodlums, think they can do whatever they want" in the country.

A force of 1,000 police were assigned late Thursday to Seine-Saint-Denis, following the previous night of violence which affected about half of the 40 towns in the department, mostly communities of immigrants from Africa, officials said.
    Hmmmm.....

Did they call the Panzer divisions "troublemakers" when they invaded? Probably.

Most recent is 4th generation, but they were long generations. They came over in the 1870s and helped build the place.. not in the 1960s to draw social services and then get mad because they didn't fit in and couldn't get enough handouts so now they start some sort of armed insurrection.

Yes, the US was built by immigrants, but almost all were European and more or less culturally compatible with each other. Before something called political correctness, the US decided they WANTED European immigrants to fill the mostly empty lands between the Mississippi and the Pacific, because they were self-sufficient and could make something out of nothing farming the midwest. Yes, they somewhat displaced native Americans there, but no more than the Aussies displaced the Aborigines, and in both countries, the native population was sparse anyhow. There was a lot of room to grow.

          Apples and oranges.

I rarely see such double standards...

"Somewhat"? And something like this comes out out the mouth of top culture-preserving-crusader? And as for Aussies...two wrongs don't make right.
Now, I would found the answer in lines of "yeah, our ancestors ****ed this thing big time, but oh well, we're not them and there's really nothing we can do about it, move along" perfectly OK...but here you are, KvH, apparently thinking that native American culture was less worthy than yours because you're saying that destroying it wasn't that bad...

Thanks for those kind and thoughtful words.

You're right, I didn't mention them, and I didn't mention a lot of people. So what?

If you have something worth saying, then say it, but keep the "Burn, witch, burn!" rhetoric out of a reasonable discussion, please.

The Native Americans are still there, and their culture is not less worthy than European culture. In fact, a lot of their values about living lightly on the land and respecting it are something we lost millennia ago, and it's a shame we did, but we would probably have been overrun by the Egyptians or Sumerians or whoever if we had not, so it's kind of a catch-22.

Their culture is gone - their way of living is gone, it can't really be done in todays world (yeah, yeah...individuals) It was unworthy in comparison to prospects of filling "mostly empty" lands and making something out of "nothing"

Don't you really see that their values, which you seem to worship, are in direct contradiction to filling land with much more people and accelerating progress? Actually, the two latter things tend to destroy it.
We really weren't meant originally to live such denselly...

And BTW, this is perhaps one of the things behind current events. People living in open areas were suddenly packed in cage-like flats, with no time to adapt things after which they're about/which they took for granted.

Algerian group calls France 'enemy number one'
PARIS, Sept 27 (AFP) - An Algerian Islamist organisation, the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC), has issued a call for action against France which it describes as "enemy number one", intelligence officials said Tuesday.

"The only way to teach France to behave is jihad and the Islamic martyr," the group's leader Abu Mossab Abdelwadoud, also own as Abdelmalek Dourkdal, was quoted as saying in an Internet message earlier this month.

"France is our enemy number one, the enemy of our religion, the enemy of our community," he was quoted as saying.

France was mentioned 15 times in the text, and the Algerian government was also targeted, the officials said.

Nine people detained in a series of raids west of Paris Monday are suspected members of the GSPC, officials have said. They were being questioned for a second day Tuesday at the headquarters of the DST domestic intelligence agency.

Interior minister Nicolas Sarkozy said Monday that the risk of terrorist attack in France is "at a very high level... There are cells operating on our territory."

The GSPC was created from a split in the Armed Islamic Group (GIA), the main force in Algeria's long insurgency which was also responsible for a series of bombings in France in 1995.

I wonder if France (and Europe) will start taking the whole Global War on Terrorism concept seriously now...

Paris is burning. Despite pleas from the government, this 'insurgency' is only spreading. It's also spreading to other countries; in it's forth day in Denmark.

                              Short-term assumptions:

Radical Muslim leaders in Europe call for 'Jihad against France.'....DONE!!

Radical Muslim leaders in Europe call for 'Jihad against the whole of Europe.'.... Coming SOON!!

Soon after (say 10 days from now), OBL does the same. Loyal young Muslim hoodlums comply. The insurgency spreads to Germany, Holland, and Spain.

As for us Aussies, we f**ked the Aboriginals big time, their culture, yeah sure, we gave them a new one, called beer and tobaco. Watch 'Rabbit Proof Fence' for a good idea of what we did to their culture.
