Correct, although the spelling is usually Drach. They put on an excellent show on the water for the tourists.

Difficult. The window structure suggests a hot dry climate. How about a synagogue in N. Afica, say Morocco or Tunisia?

It is a synagogue all right. Warm climate and sunny weather all year around.
              But it's not in Africa.
Take a better look at the picture, there's something much more interesting than the windows.

Middle East? Not many places with warm sunny weather all year round. Is the floor sand covered? Saudi Arabia or a neighbour?

                  Not Middle East.
                  Yes, that's sand.
There are only 4 synagogues in the world with sand covered floor.

                    Mikve Israel-Emanuel Synagogue, Curacao

I'd hardly call Curacao as sunny all year! It has a bigger rainfall than here!!!!!!

I was reading a guide about Curacao's weather and this is what I got:

"Located in the tropics, just 12° north of the Equator -- and outside of the hurricane belt -- Curaçao has a warm, sunny climate year round. The average temperature is about 27° C ( mid 80s F). Refreshing trade winds blow constantly from the east, picking up in the spring months. The rainy season, October to February, is marked by short, occasional showers, usually at night, and continued sunny weather by day. Total annual rainfall averages only 570 mm (22 inches). Occasionally a tropical storm brewing elsewhere in the Caribbean can cause uncharacteristically cloudy weather for a day or two."

                      Sounds perfect to me!

We have had only 209.6 mm here this season and we have had at least 20-30 days with no sun.

My guess would be the same, possibly solar driven.

Is it a holiday village of some kind? Looking at the high density, open-plan nature, even the garden furniture is the same both sides of the street.
