    cached images only

    Just a test-question for VJ:

if you right-click an image that is not display and choose "Load image" (top option), does it load normally or does the re-load loop start?

Note: I will be away from work - probably all next week. Apologies for the delay before I can keep monitoring your feedback on the problem.

      hallvors:

I tried it several times (there are different images not in my cache ); the image loads, but in most of the occasions it appears to require Opera to "rebuild" the page (the page just flashes once, there appears a statusbar at the bottom of the window for a short period of time).

I don't think it reloads the entire page from the site, but I'm not 100% sure: the status-bar of the window appears, and the scroll-block (the thing you drag when you want to scroll) in the scrollbar changes size (starts out big, then shrinks as the entire page is displayed).
Given the speed at which even large pages reappear, I think only the selected image is loaded, but as it only has to fetch text, I can't really tell (I'm on a very fast connection).

      Jörg

PS: Opera is set in the "multiple document interface", so all browser-windows are in 1 window.

I have been browsing the forums without seeing anything like the loop in our latest internal preview of the next version, so it looks like they've fixed it. The bad news is that you still have to wait a while. I'm afraid I may not disclose any release date for this version, but it is the main focus of our work now. The reason we do not make predicted release dates public is that the program will require an unpredictable amount of testing and bug-fixing before the release.

            Great news, hallvors!

And great to see that Customer Care at Opera is really taken seriously (and/or, that you personally care )

I presume there will be no rebate campaign for Opera 7?

Still waiting for someone to explain how, if this is an Opera problem, it doesn't happen to me and I've been using Opera as my main browser for well over a year. Had a brief issue, for a couple of days, back with one of the late '5' versions but nothing since....

But if it's the software shouldn't everybody who uses it be having the problem?

given up on opera, it has locked machine solid on to many occasions (other sites)
I was using 6.05, uninstalled and deleted all traces from all my computers....

Mozilla is now my main browser, it was my backup browser.

, Only things I will miss are "open page in backgrond" and opera's speed, but with ADSL the speed difference is no real problem.

was good for a while, but it looks like the free altenative is better.

I'm giving Mozilla a spin until O7 comes out. It's pretty good.

Try control+click on links, that'll open them in another tab, in the background. I think this is customizable in preferences/advanced.

                          Thanks Hallvors, great news !
(great support, or is it as az mentioned personal care ?)

Any chance of the people here often referring to Opera (albeit in a less then optimal situation ) being offered a rebate ?
                          (just kidding )

PS: Any chance of trying http://www.dpreview.com with the new version ? In version 6, the javascript menu on the left side does not work...

Just tried the site (running 6.05) and the menu worked just fine.

                              www.dpreview.com works for me, too...

You could try http://www.opera.com/support/ - I hear they are good

P.S.: If you want to buy Opera at a discount (20,- $, or 10,- $ for students), and enter a contest to win a Sharp Zaurus PDA (with Opera) - go here I believe the registered upgrade to Opera 7 will be free, as the next version was always free.

                                az:
yes, the site works perfectly, but if you'd use IE for instance, you'll notice that the left menubar has additional pop-ups that don't appear with Opera...

edit: I think I'll wait with contacting support till version 7...

Thanks for those links (I still am a student ! )
