Have not played that many games myself, but the ones that'll I not forget are a.o.:

        Strategy
        Defender of the Crown (Amiga)
Dune II (PC, windowed under OS/2)
Command and Conquer (RA etc were less imo, except for
        Red Alert multiplayer
Lords of the Realm (and LotR II)

        Action
        Pac-Man (TRS-80 Model-III)
        Jumpman (C-64)
Pitstop II (C-64, made national telly with that one)
        Speedball, (Amiga) and of course
Speedball II: Brutal Deluxe (Man, that was wild!, Amiga)
        Fighter Ace

I remember a few more, but these ones were kewl.

Another BBC classic was Exile, also available on the ST and Amiga IIRC. Written by Peter Irvin, (Starship Command), and Jeremy Smith, (Thrust), probably one of the last proper games for the beeb.

Prince of Persia reminded me of a game just like it, except in a SciFi setting ... man what was the name of that game? The animation and motion of the game was completely revolutionary for the day... crap, I'll remember at 03:00.

Along the same lines, Myst. That game had me glued to the computer for hours on end.

EDIT: HA! Found it, and it's only 23:00! Out of this World ("Another World" in Europe I believe): http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.ph...+of+This+World

Man I LOVED that game All three of them

Old games I can remember without spending too much time thinking about it, I know there are more.... (not in order of liking, greatness, or anything)

                    C=64 :

                    Jumpman
                    M.U.L.E.
                    Raid on Bungling bay
                    Impossible Mission
                    Racing Destruction Set
                    Archon (1 and 2)
                    Mail Order Monsters
                    Beach Head (1 and 2)
                    Gyrus

                    Amiga:

                    The Settlers
                    Sim Ant
                    Captive

Robosport (not all that fun, but an interesting concept)

Elite (I got to Elite rating)

Dune 2 (I think it's the original RTS game, plus it was fun!)

Shadow of the Beast (Horrific game play, great graphics and sounds)

Dungeon Master (and to a lesser extent, Chaos Strikes back)

Black Crypt (ooh, Extra half-bright mode to get 64 colors)

Battle Squadron (probably the best looking game for the Amiga that I remember, plus great game play, easily coin-op quality)

                    Ports of Call

Star Glider 2 (looked good, sounded good, played good, ending was laughably pathetic, just a "you have won" type text scrolling across your ships text readout)

Lemmings (and to a lesser extent, Lemmings 2)

Hired Guns (game used split-screen mode to run 4 characters at once, played the main game through in three player mode with three people, was fun, especially the "accidental" friendly-fire)

F/A-18 Interceptor (not sure what they did right, but I've yet to see a flight simulator quite match the feel of this one)

Fighter Duel Pro 2 (WW2 air combat simulator, actually played against other people over dial-up)

                    subLogic Flight Simulator 2

Defender of the Crown (pretty graphics, primitive game play)

Mind Walker (really wierd game, cool sound effects)

                    PC:

The Ur-Quan Masters ( open-sourced port of the 3D0 version of Star Control 2, not exactly abandonware since it's still being supported and developed)

Planescape: Torment (It's an Interplay game, not sure if it counts as abandonware yet or not. :P)

                    Fallout (see above)
