  • Here's a little fuel for the speculation from a regular lurker:

I distinctly remember the BB's denying that they knew anything even worth having an NDA for a few months ago. Now they seem to be inferring that a current NDA is holding them back from disclosing something that we care about.

How's that for speculation about speculation?

    • I suspect what the Beta Boys know and when they found out depends on what and when Matrox tells them. They probably knew little or nothing several months ago and now they do. The NDA is not applicable until they know something to disclose.

Put the physics explanation back in there

Why edit it out? It was about as close as what you left out of the edit

            • I thought the physics line could be interpreted as insulting.

I said something to the effect of, "it's all about physics: time, space, etc."

Well, sort of lying. I assume the specs have changed in the last couple of months.

                    • Hey,
Until now, I happen a "Matrox-Only" kind of guy, not because I'm a Matrox fan, but because at the time of my purchases, Matrox products made more sense to me than other boards. It started with an Ultima PCI 2 MB (very expensive, talking $600 US here...), then an Impression Plus PCI 4 MB, a Millennium 4 MB, a Mystique 220 8 MB, a Millennium G200 16 MB and finally a Millennium G400 32 MB DualHead. I'm currenlty looking at upcoming boards; ATI Radeon 2: surely good hardware, but will it have stable drivers and glitches-free graphics??? (ever played Mercedes Benz Truck Racing on a Radeon??? Unbearable...); nVIDIA GeForce 3: will be fast, will be great, will incorporate some new technologies (read: a LITTLE new technologies...), will look fairly good (in 3D, 2D quality will still be as poor as its predececors...) and will require a second mortage on your house; S3 Graphics (the new joint venture between VIA and SonicBlue) Columbia: looks promising on papers (as the Savage 2000 did...), but can S3 deliver FULLY FONCTIONNAL HARDWARE and REAL DRIVERS this time???; BitBoys: let's not start on this one please! (although it has been rumored that Matrox was licensing some BitBoys technologies, like XBA, something that makes sense, as the Bitboys chip was/is supposed to include 9 MB of on-chip/on-die 512-bits memory, and the G800 is rumored to include embedded ram too...); Finally Matrox: Has always delivered solid, stable and High performance hardware (notice there's absolutely no mentions of fully operationnal drivers here, G200 boards have been waiting all their lives for those...). At its launch, the G400 was (much) faster than the TNT2 Ultra in 32 bits at any resolution, and the MAX (or an overclocked G400 32 MB) could easily hold its own when facing the GeForce Sdram in 32 bit rendering at high resolution.

So, my decision ??? When the time comes, I will look at reviews, performances, drivers and quality benchmarks and THEN make up my mind... So, don't try tell me the the XJSAIYSAFD card is better than the (*%&"$TFJWDA8 card because it has better ?%EASBVCDAH that the MQVH/WE*I&% card...

As always, feel free to comment, as it appreciated, as long as it's positive...

                      • What Dosfreak didn't really get is that he is trying to make other people believe his idea of the world is better than theirs.
Kinda like those guys in the Ars forum making huge thread on religion...
If there is one thing that smart people dislike is being told that what they believe in is plain BS.

In clear, I will never try to convince Dosfreak to buy a G400 because what he needs is clearly a GF...
And I DO expect dosfreak to let me make my own choice alone and not juge me on wichever card powers my PC.
It's a mather of fact that most Murcers have incredible knowledge in computers and vid cards so I think they are smart enough to know when to change their vid card and wich one to choose!
If they think that a g400 is enough for them, I damn believe they are right. If they think they need a GF then they may buy one, I do not care! Because the vid card does not make the gamer!

                            • Man...I'm so tired of these 'informed' moderators telling me and everyone else that I don't know what I'm talking about, when it is in fact they who are clueless. Of course I know what I'm talking about...I have had very close dealings with the development of the G800. And just by the way people, whatever the site moderators may claim, I know Mtx's policy towards these types of sites and the enthusiast community in general, so whatever you may think you know, you don't. Get it?

Now, don't everyone start harassing me and asking me for specs etc., 'cause I'm not going to give them to you. All I'll say, is that what you're currently calling the G800, in the form that you're talking about it, isn't at all what you think it will be. That's not to say that Mtx doesn't have some cool shit coming down the pipe...it's just to say that you're all holding your breath for a fool's dream, and the ingrates who think they know more than me because they have some kind of false sense of loyalty to Mtx and you post on a Mtx fan forum, well, you're just pathetic. Mtx doesn't feed you any info, because they don't care enough about you to give you a moment's thought. So there you have it...that's it, that's all. So wake up and smell the damn coffee.
