Since they've started on it about 7 months ago and aparently the game engine itself is essentially done,because former id employees were allowed to see it,and acording to their comments,it easily beat the unreal tech demos that were shown a few months ago,especially the use of lights.
Actually the exact comment of one of them(american Mcgee)developer of alice,was more along the lines of "I had to pick up my jaw off the floor after seing it" type comments.
This is just a guess,but i think it's possible that a demo could be released before the end of the year.
