The "drivers" on the new board will be "feature rich"

We don't want feature rich drivers and HW. We just want the fastest 3D anywhere so we can have our names on the top of the 3DMark2001 benchmarks.

Even though the G550 is -RUMORED- to only have two pixels pipelines like the G400, but it can do two extures per pixel... So, coupled with 128-bits DDR-SDRAM and Matrix Skinning, it will be a pretty interesting card, although not as fast than those of the competitors. However, Dual-Head, solid multi-platform drivers and exceptionnal images quality will be things pushing in favor of Matrox. Concerning HSR, I don't think it will be done if hardware; if Matrox is to include HSR with the G550, it will most probably be software solution.

I agree with CHHAS. Such a board could be out for 1 year .

I fear Matrox use only a 128 bits architecture. If so, i think the use of 128 DDR will not be usefull as of a Radeon or Gforce. Wait and see.

HSR even in software could give us some boost, but what really will be appreciate are S3TC and Dot3 bump mapping.

HSR in software sure provide some performance gain, sometimes alot, but it looks like my hairy 455 Have you tried software HSR on a Voodoo 5 5500 / GeForce 2 /GeForce 3 ??? Almost UNplayable in most games: a lot of dropped triangles and pixels, bad Z coordinates (an object supposed to be hidden by an other appears in front of that one) bugs current wave of software HSR.Even the hardcoded HSR in the Kyro/2 sometimes exhibits such problems (yet much more rarely...)

Also, I don't know why you say that because TCFKAG800NKAG550 only uses a 128 bits architechture it shouldn't gain much from DDR SDRAM memory... Hey, doesn't the G4X0 already possesses a 256bits architechture ? and G550 is -RUMORED- to be a souped-up G400 (If I'm not mistaken, M's G400 was the first graphics chip to have a 256-bits architechture). I think you mistaken the core architechture with the memory bus' width

About HSR, don't know, never try, but you could be right.

The G400 processor is 128 bits architecture.

true, but that's not all of the story ...

I knew that it was a 256 DualBus core; I also know it's slightly different than a true 256 bits bus (two 128 bits buses instead of a 256 bus) and that difference offer almost no disadvantages over a true 256 bus...

So, let's get back to the real problem here: when are we be able to get our paws on a G550 ?
