  • You're falling into Reactor Critical's (motto: We make the Register look credible) trap. Matrox does not have 3rd parties their own cards, just a fab and PCB maker, and then sell their own cards.
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

    • if matrox used 3rd party's then they would lose the only thing that really makes them popular, quality, if they outsource board production they would be the same as ati and *gulp* nividia in terms of quality and they know this. quality is the reason that people pay a premium for there boards and if they lose quality prices must fall to generate demand. and there will be little to differentiate them from the compitition.i can forsee a problem though, if this board is real expensive ie 3 or 4 times more than the compitiotion then what is to stop ati or nvid just slapping dual chip varients of their cards out? cost of fabbing wont be an issue because the actual manufacturing cost once r & d is done are very small.voodoo 5 didnt fail because it was multi chip it failed because it was lame old technology which nvids single processor could beat.a multi chip gf4 or radeon 8500 would not share this problem and i suppose they could easlt be modded so that each chip addressed its own memory thus effectively increasing memory bandwidth.

      • Uh oh, I feel like an Amiga user again

Say what you will, these are still rumours arent they? It just all seems to me like the final days of the Amiga when everybody kept buying them and saying they where gonna release a new machine and then go out of business. I know Matrox is not in financial dificulties at all, but the whole theme of the "Whats the next VGA card from Matrox" question reminds me of that. Here's hoping it's different than said Amiga scenario. Personally, I'd pay up to 400 for a badass card. but I mean BADASS. I mean, come one, a Radeon 8500 is pretty decent and over here in the US they are only 165 bucks now for a 64MB card.

        Welp, here's hoping.

"None the less, the faithfulls should know this but for all the newcomers, we basically come out with a next gen chip every 3 years. During this period, we do announce new products but it's merely a spin off of the originally announced chip."

          • @borat... that's alot easier said than done. Unless the chip was originally designed to be configured in a multichip setup it's not going to happen without a complete redesign. That's a major undertaking to say the least.

Besides isn't what you've said rhetorical?...

nV's technology is a rehash of a rehash of a rehash of not much more than higher clocked technology with a few goody thrown in for good measure.

Actually the reason for 3dfx to fail was mostly due to their business mistakes and augmented by nV leaching technology from them (as they did with Matrox).

What were hinting toward is ground breaking technology as unheard of to date. Not just faster as in raw speed, but just about every mouthwatering feature you've ever hoped for. All the while still maintaining Matrox quality we've all come to appreciate and expect.

              • I never liked the later voodoo cards because their color was bland and because "people don[t want 32-bit color" and I sure did.

This "Parhelia" code name is too whimpy. I think what were talking about here is ... <TABLE BGCOLOR=Aqua><TR><TD><font COLOR=Blue><font SIZE="+2">

                      • What, will the poor student do? Yes that's right, he will sell his plagued soul to Satan for a sheer amount of money that barely covers the cost of a spanking new board from Matrox.

And after that on the way home, happy that he has finally gotten what he was waiting for, he dies the most tragic death in a car accident. And after that, he will be tormented for all eternity in the seventh level of hell (Dante) where the greatest sinners are.

Stop that, you sound like a marketdroid Not to mention that I become very afraid that I'll be experiencing my last moments in a freak accident when walking to the post office to fetch my Parhelia...

Hey, if I remember correctly, in some thread you called the new card the Matrox Zenithal? Was this your own invention or something more? Taken Trottier's interest in space and astronomy I wouldn't find that impossible at all... Zenith is related to the highest point, a climax, and If Parhelia becomes true then it would undoubtedly be the peak point of Matrox for some time to come.

Edit: Novdid! Almost at the same minute! This is getting too scary, I'm outta here

are we talking about 64bit color?

BTW wasn´t the G200 the first chip EVER that could do 3d in 32bit color?
This sig is a shameless atempt to make my post look bigger.
