Now where's that young lady Maggi? You see this is why I have been quiet, drawing up the contract for Dan Wood's soul, hey how the hell else did you think Matrox were going to come up with something like the Parhelia?

pffttt... now i am ashamed of buying an ATI Radeon 8500 2 months ago...

not ashamed of recommending one for my gaming girlfriend, as you can buy the retails for $160

hmm, even if it is $1000... if it is faster than the GeForce4, it would already be competing with the Quadro4 chips and would already be cheaper....

Matrox is really the only mainstream company that has any sort of experience with High End graphics cards. ATI bought the FireGL stuff from diamond, the FireGL8800 uses the R200 core still, which while i like the core a lot i wouldn't use the drivers for a professional environment too buggy. NVidia has been pushing the quadro stuff around, but that is still based on a core designed for gaming. drivers are decent (nvidia has gotten a lot better about them), but i still wouldn't call them workstation graphics. 3DLabs and the others are professional graphics cards companies - its a very different market. Matrox is really the only consumer company to have any sort of experience dealing with the high end video industry, and is gonna be in the best position to work in it. they have very good relationships with OEM's, and if they are selling their new card for under $1k, they will definately get business...

      good positioning for them...

i don't regret that i paid as much as i did for my G400MAX when i bought it. granted, i got a good deal for it (about $250 after shipping) and i already had a Voodoo3, but it worked so much better than the voodoo3 and remained in my system despite buying a GeForce 256 and a Voodoo5. i would rather pay more for a graphics card that has Matrox's traditionally good drivers and compatability.

about a year ago, that site started get more and more new members just like your trolls. well, did muropaketti get rid of them? No, they are still there.
most of the new members are not a problem, but yesterday registration was closed again, so that the trolls can be rooted out. the forum owner is very keen on having the forum as a friendly place for people of all ages, so the rules are very strict, ie no swearing, and if people repeatedly break the rules they are banned and not allowed back even under another user name. sometimes i think the rules are too strict, but the owners word is final

Intentionally so. This is the first real information release for the new product, and there is more in the works.

Care to share what you have learned?

Yeah, care to share some more info with us Ant? Vigil Ant sounds like he neds to get the rest of the info out of his system. And the rest of us needs him to get it out of his system. But what I really need to know is:

              WHEN CAN I ORDER IT?

I'll be the first in line this time around for pre-orders. No dicking around this time. Last time I pre-ordered waited, canceled the pre-order, and bought it anyway later on What an idiot I was. I'm just gonna pre-order this time and wait it out. Summer is a long ways away

I will definitely buy if the performance is worth the $300 pricetag.

Ah....One more to consider for my video card upgrade in six months or so assuming that it's a full DX9 card, and at least 50%~60% faster than my GF3,in real FPS terms....

So I'll compare the card with other DX9 cards like Nvidia's Nv30 and ATI's R300 before making a final decision....

The card should be available by then,right?....
                      note to self...

Assumption is the mother of all f***ups....

P4 2.8 ghz,1 gig DDR pc 2700(kingston),Radeon 9700(stock clock),audigy platinum and scsi all the way...

I'll be happy if it's twice as fast as my G400max.

*edit* If it's true, then Matrox has the market ripe for its picking. High performance, High quality, and no BSODs. Computer freaks have shown over and over that they're willing to pay $400+ for video cards if they think it's worth it...

k6-III: I think the performance is going to be worth it, but as for $300 ummm start considering selling any relatives you don't need to raise the finance

$479.00 usd is not unreasonable if it's more than just a fps killer, I've always enjoyed new features (ok maybe not the "original" use of Headcasting )
