  • How is that the same way that the boys at BitBoys (Yo! Adrian!) feel?

If the guys at rendition are actually making products, that puts them LIGHTYEARS ahead of bitboys, doesn't it?

    • afaik bitboys DID produce working hardware once a long time ago, in the voodoo1 era. it was called parymid3d, and iirc tim sweeny (programmer at epic megagames) had one, he wasn´t that impressed though.

      • okay, this is one of things that I really would have my own word to say but I'll drop it.

EDIT: naah... I have to say something. I can't just stand and watch...

but I still want to remember that nowadays Bitboys and Bitboys back then has only 4 same workers so much has changed.

and besides, that chip was Tritech's BB designed it but it was Tritech's. And so was the Bankcrupty (caused by 30 million losed Audio side patent lawsuit.) which destroyed toally whole Pyramid3D project two weeks before production line was starting.

and also John Carmack as many others have had Pyramid3D samples. they were delivered very widely.

Also, in dev boards there was huge differencies between each revs. first ones were running on 60Mhz and the production model was running on 100Mhz so with two pipes, it causes very big drop to performance if it runs on lower clocks.

Also, Pyramid3D was Microprogrammable so it was actually capable doing huge amoount of things. And one of the it's (for PROs back then ...) finest abilities was Displacement Mapping. it run slowly (only few FPS.) it but still faster than any software implementation back then.

For the gamers it would have offered DX6 Bump Mapping (Environemtal Bump Mapping might sound more familiar here. ) and Multi Texturing.

before the Tritech fall down Bitboys got Env Bump Mapping copyright and only few months after that Matrox Licensed Env. Bump Mapping tech from Bitboys. few months later, Microsoft licensed and announced DX6 Bump Mapping support. month after that Tritech found it's grave and Bitboys got only EMBM from 3 years hard work.

after that begin the time fo Glaze for them and they made many mistakes during that time and when Glaze got finished, it never made to market because of reasons that I am not allowed to talk. After that they took Glaze as starting point and started to develop next chip, which was finished on last christmas. Again, they got manufacturing problems, but still they aren't giving up. Next gen is in the works and even this chip which was finished on last christmas, will be seen on press tests.

I don't know how many times I have wrote this but I'll still hope that this will clarify some things. I understand very well if somebody (or anybody) doesn't believe that Bitboys would be able to deliver something, but when you bash ppl, base it on the facts. otherwise you aren't better than nVidiots nor fanATIcs.

At least they developed EMBM for us, so I think thats a something.

            Nappe1,

I've been hearing rumors since last Christmas time that Bitboys did have a Video card but the chances of it getting out to production where scuttled do to problems with the RAM manufacture etc...though they did have a couple of "Press" Release boards that got out to different reviewers etc...so the question is why aren't they letting the reviewers publish reviews of the board just to disprove that they are nothing but Vaporware?

Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?
