Can anyone tell me what the normal operating temperature is for the Parhelia? ALPBM said tops 44C.

Until I make up my mind what I'm finally going to clap on the P, I just scraped the tarmac off it and buttered it with Artic Silver 3, figuring it might at least help the stock HSF a bit.

Now the temp runs 45C-47C, though I don't know how accurate this new thermosensor is. Is that normal?
How can you possibly take anything seriously?
    Who cares?

Mutz, I'm sure your just saying 'buttered' and didn't really stick a butterings worth of as3 between HSF and the chip... if so... BAD MONKEY!!!! Thin layer, THIN.... anyway... sorry....

...Ha! I shouldn't get to casual around here, it occured to me somebody might pick up on buttering. No, thin, not THIN. Don't want butter dripping on anything in the toaster.

How's the weather in Portland? Haven't been there for a while.

Thanks Greebe, can always count on you for a straight answer.

SG debonder is essentially nothing more than Acetone. Being that, it will eat up most every type of plastic found in PC's today, possibly even eating up his old TnT chip. Not recommended

Better to throw the card in the freezer to make the glue fragile...

Had many a tech in training that would blow just repaired or while troubleshooting thermal issues/circuits getting a "Freeze it" treatment (in a can) which takes IC's and what not to either -65 or -96f (depending on type used) . They'd power it up before the condensate would evaporate and KaPOW crispy critter...

They would be forced to buy a Hairdrier before using again

if you want to take your heatsink off after superglueing the corners, always twist the heatsink. do not just pull

...gotta be careful how you put two and two together around here.

Greebe said use hair dryer to soften tarmac. Yep, did it!

ALPBM said scrape off tarmac with razor. Yep, did it!

ALPBM said finish cleanup with acetone. Yep, did it!

Greebe says don't use acetone, melt ever thang. Uh-oh, done done.

                          Nothing happened... yet...

Actually found medical benzin works best, followed up for a polish with isolpropyl alcohol. Don't tell me that's not good... please?

Mutz, Portland's great! Just moved here from Boston last year. About to hit the rainy season, love being only an hour from mountains, the coast, white water rivers and tons of trails. Plus, plenty of stuff going on in city and they have a pretty good art scene. Now, if only the job market didn't suck

                              Mutz, Greebe et al,

I know nothing about this changing of heat-sinks etc. But I am tempted. Would ordinary nail-polish remover work to clean things up?

Oh crap...I used Debonder on the Memory on one of the RAM sinks I had to redo because of a placement issue. I also used some nail polish remover to clean up some AC2 that got a bit messy when putting it on. I dont think it was the acetone type though..and I dont have any sticky compontents on the card where I applied it, so I'm guessing I'm safe and the card still works fine
