I logged in to Steam last night. It's a pretty cool system. I entered my Half-Life CD key, and it allowed me to download HL,CS,DoD,OpFor, and some other stuff. Most of it was done installing itself when I got back 6 hours later.
Still no word on whether or not I get HL:Source. But Steam has a really easy question submission system, we'll see when Valve gets back to me.

Is there any differance between the two, I have noticed the one in play.com is a dvd version, do you think its a silver edition :/

I'm only aware of two retail editions: The CD-based set, which is the same as Steam:Bronze, and the Collector's Edition, which comes on DVD and includes everything + posters & stuff.
The play.com one has me worried.

Hello,
The HL Platinum pack does not include any of the source games, HL: Source is
included in the Silver/Gold Steam packages, and the collectors edition in retail
stores.

This doesn't answer my question AT ALL. Please actually read my inquiry,
thanks.

Hello,
I am sorry for any inconvenience you have experienced, we had a problem with
some of our authentication servers on the day of release for the game. This made
it difficult for some people to register or unlock their game files. The problem
has been cleared up and you should not experience the errors you were receiving
any longer. Please let us know if you are still having any sort of problems, and
we will answer you as soon as possible.

Hi,
Apologies if this is already answered somewhere, but I checked the FAQs and
didn't see it.
Does the HL Platinum Pack include HL:Source when it's released?
If I own Platinum, and buy HL2:Bronze or retail, then do I get HL:Source in that
somehow? I heard that I did, but cannot find clarification on Steam either way.

I'm thinking of getting the Collector's Edition. buy.com has it for $68, and there's a 6% off anything coupon. If I didn't already own HL1, I'd definitely get it.

With the collector's edition, you would only be paying $30 extra for a $5 t-shirt, and a small booklet with some 'concept art' (and a single DVD instead of 5 CDs).
To me, it wasn't worth it...

It's a tough call. $64 shipped.
The regular edition is $50 shipped at newegg, $55+tax at Best Buy (on the way home), or $40+tax + gas & time to south Denver, IF MicroCenter still has it.

Well, it took me about an hour and a half do get down to DTC and back. That alone would have been worth $10.
