I totaly agree.
One of the major problems with Islam is that it's so decentralized. Every local-yokel Mullah can issue "fatwah's" declaring holy war on this, that or the other. Unfortunately there isn't really a central authority to reach down, grab 'em by the ears and shake some sense into them.
Until other Muslim clerics get together in an organized manner and start exercising such control we can only conclude that they are exhibiting tacit support for the actions of the radicals or that they have been taking head-in-the-sand lessons from the UN
