People are just such a waste of flesh nowadays.. it's really amazing how stupid they are about anything which has to do with culture.. not only are they supremely ignorant, but also arrogant about this ignorance, as if to know these things about the world somehow is a handicap to those who know. I could lay the blame for this culture of ignorance, but it would be very politically incorrect to do so.

BTW, can you name all the states of Germany, Thop? I can..

      Such a stupid American..

I like a much simpler test. Ask people from all over the world if they know the words of the second part of their country's anthem.

Most of them don't know such a part even EXISTS.

edit: not to mention that most of them won't even know the words for the first part of it.

Not only that but you would be called a racist too. The dumbing down of our public school systems and social promotions, just to name a couple of things, have not done a whole lot of good.

I've read sth. funny in an article about the National Geographer study, a quote by someone from the US, i believe it might even be by a former US president but i don't remember, saying: War is Gods way to teach us Geography.

Oh c'mon. This is a useless argument.

I have posted VERY similar rants about how woefully undereducated the Yoo-rope-eens are, and I get flamed for it...

The big difference, as I see it, is that Americans don't CARE that they're ignorant, whereas Europeans are just as ignorant, but THINK that they're quite cosmopolitan and world-aware.

War is Gods way to teach us Geography.
                      lets see:

Q: Take a minute and look at the map below. The United States of America is shown by what number on the map?

Q: Take a minute and look at the map below. Afghanistan is shown by what number on the map?

@ gurm: you just have to interpret the survey the right way: the us youth is so happy with their country, they don't want to be anywhere else and therefore don't care for geography. the swedes on the other hand deliver great results... go figure.

PS.: 97% of the swedes found sweden on a world map.

Right on. Some countries over there could still benefit a lot from a shipment of Right Guard

                        And as far as the socialists go who think the higher income US taxpayer doesn't "pay his share/do his part"...try this;

And the top 5% still pay over 50% of all federal income taxes.

These figures are straight from the IRS and do not take into account property, school millages, federal/state/local sales, state and local income, excise, "user fees" and other taxes that higher income people also pay a vast majority of due to their highly regressive nature.

If that isn't enough then it's time to stop calling it a government and start calling it a den of thieves.

                        Oops....it already is

                        Pffftttt....

Don't argue with them. They just don't understand the fine art of dumbing of our public school systems by the bleeding heart liberal do-gooders just to accommodate the lowest of the low in our society, and what it has done to the overall education of our youth.

Yup. The Democratic/Socialist movement in the US has had one major sucess in the last 30 years: the near destruction of our educational system.

They did this by gutting the core curriculum and replacing it with what Amercans call "basic basket weaving", enviro-guilt and touchy-feely "classes". In the school system where my wife works this takes the actual number of instructional hours down to about 50% of the total school week.

That large numbers of the public are how voting with their feet and moving their children into alternative facilities (acadamies, home schooling etc.) is encouraging.

What will be even more encouraging is the passage in Congress and signing into law by the President of legislation implementing school vouchers, which will allow even low income parents to vote with their feet and move their kids into higher performing schools of choice.

This movement bodes ill for the Democrats especially because one of their core consituent groups, the black community, is massively in favor of it dispite the Democratic party (and their masters: the teachers unions) being violently opposed.

In fact one suburban Detroit city that has a black majority in its population has gone so far as to turn its schools over to a private school management group: Edison School Management.

Edison is also taking over entire school systems in large cities like Philadelphia.

                                Oops...
