lol ... I think that is just a little too harsh and as Britain is a Democratic State it is VERY!!! very unlikely as ppl wouldn’t stand for it. Oh yeah and just to make this valid point America did not devise Democracy as that was a British invention, before America even existed .. hehe On top of that we have more freedom as you have your constitutional rights which are a nightmare to change. So ppl can walk around with weapons legally, where the Uk has Laws that can easily be changed and modified to suit us. So we clearly have a much more effective Democratic state

Our constitutional rights have served us very well. Why change what works???

pfffff you don't even know the difference between sensationalized media (news) hype and the real issues involved. The US was a completely different senerio as to how it came into being and thus different laws and rules to govern by. Not better per se, just different. Please learn the difference

So we clearly have a much more effective Democratic state
          Cough, see above

They would at least learn how to get of bed on time (how's that for a stereotype).

              And Amen to that!

I have yet to see the "perfect" system for building/governing society. And the selfish-pragmatist in me sqashes the idealist - so I'm happy enough to roll with what we've got, and let others roll with what they've got. I'm only a small fish you see.

                I'm not so sure.
Our military is so good now, it might not be a good idea to go back to conscription.

How about "universal mandatory civilian service" of some sort?

PS If the draft had been truly universal, Viet Nam would never have happend the way it did because the opposition would have solidified much earlier.

Well it is a change from "You're only a mini-Murcer and/or I have lots more posts than you" that has passed for a riposte from more than one SuperMurcer in the past here.
