  • About Matrox going to GDC ...

3dlabs is going to GDC too ... and they don't have any gamer products ...

like i said a few months ago , they'll probably have the Geforce/Quadro type of thing , just MUCH better at everything

      • I'm not really beliveing in eDRAM, but a Dual channel 128Bit DDR bus seems feasible for the targeted market. I'm sure that, with the current bandwidth limitations we will see a 256Bit bus sooner or later, so why not Matrox being the first?

Would fit esp. nice to the 19.2 GB/s bandwidth-rumor that keeps floating through the net. 300MHz * 256Bit (or dual channel 128Bit) * DDR = 19.2GB....

EDIT: If I think about it, using QDR might be another possibility
But we named the *dog* Indiana...

        • Hmmm..... Moichendizing!

1, Put out major killer pro card @ > $1000 to get attention
2, "We know you can't buy the Gxxxx" but, here's it's baby sister for only $350.

In other words look down on the competition from above.
Kind of like when I got my Mystique cause I couldn't afford a Millennium .

          • okay, let me try to read between the lines:

            [THIS IS NOT A FACT]
            Matrox Parhelia:
            - 19.2GB/s memory bandwidth using 256 bit DDR interface running at 300Mhz
            - Vey powerful tesselation engine capable doing displacement mapping and maybe something like trueform.
            - at least DualHead
            - supports DX8.x shaders.
            - maybe micro code programmable core making possible to flash shaders to support 2.0 at DX9.
            - supportted DX9 features: Higher precision internal rendering (at least 48 bits, maybe also 64 bits.), Displacement Mapping and option to update shaders to 2.0
            - Much more finalized drivers than competitors had on launch.
            - Full Linux support straight on the box.
            - Fully working ICD/MCD for OpenGL with support to ARB extensions and some ATI Prioritary extensions.
            [/THIS IS NOT A FACT]

I hope that we know which of these are right before GDC.

              • I was curious, and so went to have a look at who is at the GDC:

GDC is the game industry's premier professional event, championing game developers and the advancement of their craft.

This then posed the question - why is Matrox's location an "ES" one? Does this denote some sort of larger exposuite or suchlike? So why is a company with no visible gaming hardware hiring out lots of space at a gaming conference? Other companies with "ES" in their location have more obvious links...

(Sorry - new to this internet forum (plural=forae?) stuff, but couldn't resist adding more fuel to the fire...)

                        • I must observe, things are a bit different when contrasted with the last long awaited release....

I seem to recall Ant once upon a time saying (and forgive me for paraphrasing) that he seldom knew anything secret about Matrox products, as he didn't want to sign an NDA and comprimise himself in a news reporting sorta way. (how is that for a runon sentence).

Haig used to show up and make highly restrained sounding comments regarding unreleased products. They read sorta like a 'declassified' CIA document from the 1950's.

Now both are here dropping blatent and downright giddy sounding hints that SOMETHING is imminent.

I don't know which is worse! People saying I don't know or can't say, or watching someone dance around like a crack smoking chihuahua, busting at the seams with info they can't reveal!

                          Sigh,

                          Yours in ignorance,

BTW, I know all about the latest solutions to Schrodinger's Equation, but you'll all have to wait until it's published!!!!!

                          • Maybe they can call it the "Parhelia G800" and take advantage
of all the g800 hype. like Tempest stated like 6 pages ago.
This would be a great idea for marketing and still seperates the new chip from the old..
