  • Hey guys, TripleHead does make sense. Actually I've been thinking how it would be nice to have dual monitor desktop configuration, for comfortable work under Premier, and DVDMAX function for fullscreen preview on TV or 3rd monitor.

If G550 can drive two LCD monitors with one head ( forky cable ), why G400 with "digital flat panel add-on" cann't do same and still support DVDMAX on other? Of course maximum resolution would be 1024x768 on bouth LCD displays 'couse they be treated like one big 2048x768 screen. It is certainly possible, only we need is a special drivers and maybe bios update. So how about G800 software upgrade?

as for rumours i think all the sites 'slashdotting' any snippet of the new card is doing more damage than good, eg nvnews or that ant saying re parheilia on latest news here (cmon you know what it is )

      • Hi ,

do you think it would make sense for Matrox to attend GDC and NOT CeBIT if they plan to release a professional CAD-Card?

His whole thing still does not make much sense to me and I doubt that Matrox will be able to release a card that comes close to GeForce3/4 speed/features in the next few weeks (no, Summer 2003 is *not* early enough) not talking about descent OpenGL drivers and the support that NVidia offers. NVidia will be THE reference for most developers for the next two years because of the broad basis (too many cards out there). For me as a developer it makes less and less sense to even consider to buy or wait for a Matrox-Card.

What I need is OpenGL on one head and GDI on the second and a speed + features compared to GeForce3

        • Of course I do and any regular visitor knows that, the comment was tongue in cheek mocking sites that quite often snatch things from the MURC as their "exclusives". At the MURC you have to adapt pretty quickly to my sarcasm

            • Ah I see, you mean rumours like this causing damage...

<i>"ATI R300 and Matrox Parheila GPU and maybe S3 Columbia are more powerfull on paper than the rumoured Nvidia products and ATI R8500(DX 8.1) is being used as an devleopment platform by Microsoft for DirectX 9, who are suprisinglly not using Nvidia this time."</i>

I wonder where <i>this</i> site came across the Parhelia specs?

              • Well we all know Ant doesn't have any Matrox cards so what does he know!

That's what we want to know.
Someday, we'll look back on this, laugh nervously and change the subject.

                    • Gods! This thread is growing at a very fast rate!

All i want from the Matrox is a good (quality graphics+3d) card with around 60fpsx1024x768x32bit to replace my good old g400DH. Triple head is a bonus. Single head is enough for me anyway.

All this rumours is just raising my heartbeat

Personally if the next M card has a PCB I would be suprised.

There is a patent that I just came across a little while ago patenting FTE Transistor Technology (F.T.E. being faster than Energy)

                              • I heard from my brother's, friend's, uncles, baby-sitter, whose brother-in-law knows someone who works as a janitor at Matrox, that the Parhelia will be clocked at 500 MHz, have 64 MB eDRAM plus 128-256 MB 128-bit DDR, have 2 monitor outs, 2 s-video outs, with an optional DVI add-on card. It's fully DX8 AND DX9 compatible, has 8 texture/pixel pipes, and does FSAA 16x. At 1600x1200x32-bit, with FSAA 16x turned on they have Quake 3 running at 250 fps!!! With unoptimized drivers!!!

They flew John Carmack to Montreal to demo Doom 3 on the Parhelia. He crapped his pants when they ran Doom 3 @ 1600x1200x32-bit at an average 150 fps. Carmack said e is going to make a special Parhelia version of Doom 3 to take adavantage of Quad-head and RSN, for people who want to use supermodel skins.

Best of all...it will be announced at CeBit and the going price will be under $300...honest
