  • EMBM? Broken on the G550?

Do tell... first I've heard of this problem.

    I would still get screwed

      • broken, or just really slow? I know that EMBM on my G400 MAX was a pretty big hit on fps back when I had a K7 750, (runs sooo nice now though) and the G550's 3d performance is a bit slower than the G400, if I recall.

        • No, the EMBM is actually broken on the G550. It is the only card ever made with EMBM support to have rendering problems with EMBM.

          • And the problem hasn't been solved yet?
            Hardware problem then....

(Let's hope the developer at Matrox have somthing better to do )

Bummer dude Bablefish is just not hype enough to check within3d.slang: `ve just seen over on http://www.within3d.net/index.php
honestly for their style Bablefish did a good job. Without changing the contense of the sentences here it is

Noble card manufacturer Matrox wants back into the 3D-Market: With an all about attack the entire competition (inclusive GeForce 4 Ti) is to be set check-mate. The chip is supposed to be more powerful, but also a lot more expansive then that of the about ~ 500 € expensive Ti-4600. With this the trend to even more luxurious cards continiues. For most players a Highend version will remain exorbitant. Matrox's surprise coup carries the code name Parhelia. It's supposed to contain an improved T&L unit and a brandnew technic named Displacement Mapping That to back-conquer the performance crown.
DISPLACEMENT Mapping is a advanced version of Bump Mapping and shall permit more realistic surfaces. With this an object will receive a special texture, which contains information about it's deformation. This texture does not only determine the appearance of the object, but also its plastic development in certain situations. So far this effect was only simulated in Bump Mapping. Allegedly two Parhelia models will appear first each with 64 and 128 MByte. A bit later a 256MByte version - the actual opponent to GeForce 4 and Radeon of 9000- will follow. The first Parhelia cards with a chip clock of 300 MHz are to be done?/finished? Already in the summer.

                • I'd guess "mega cycles per second"

                  i.e. MHz...

This sig is a shameless atempt to make my post look bigger.

                      • There might be other reasons for disabling it, when using the DVI.

                        • I heard the G550 was so slow that a 2 year old could calculate EMBM faster...

sorry, lost my mind and I can't find it...

                            • yeah I read that too. I think ANt said they were arranging a press conference or something to that effect. Usually in the past PC Magazine have adverts from matrox advertising a new card before most people.

Not sure but I think that when companies show off new products to the press they have to sign a NDA not to release news till a certain date. If it was today I'm sure something will leak out like those preliminary g550 specs that were spot on about headcasting.

                              Soon?!
