  • Lets go with the assumption that all the rumors are true.

Then: High end card = 1200 bucks. If that is a State of the Art CAD card, then it will be a bargain. the monster cards from 3dLabs cost double that (Wildcat II 5110 is 2299.00, and it is no longer top of the line).

Midgrade card = 600 bucks. If this thing really rocks, it should be popular. But, it may not make it at that price point.

Low end card= 400 bucks(?). If this card still is better than anything currently available, and adds new features and FPS, thine it will sell. nVidia has shown that people will buy a new 400 dollar graphics card every year, even when in the case of the GF3 and GF4 there wasn't really a huge gain in FPS, rather the addition of new features. (I don't want to start a discussion of what GF3&4 actually added, just pointing out that each new gen has sold).

My gut says that Midgrade card may be the lost sheep, if that price point is true.

The OEM's will love the $1200 super card, while gamers will eat up the $400 version.

    Just my 2cents

    Cheers,
    Charles

      well, novdid said it.
You never get enough power...BWAHHAHHAHAHAHA!!!(evil laugh)
no. i won´t NEED it, but i sure wouldn´t mind having one either.

i will probably go for the card that is targetted at gamers though.

      • The hole thing about a Matrox card is you don't have to buy a new card evey year!!
So a high price can be justified
and I think that will be the most important part of this new line.
Nvidia and their 6 month turn around leaves you feeling short changed.

          • I think it's good that you'll et a card that's so fast that you don't need to upgrade for some years, I still have my G400 MAX But it will go out as soon as the new Matrox card is out! 128Mb version for me please

            • So, is it true that when the card(s) become available (oh, and they will) that when all you mucers see that capabilities, hear the others rant and rave, that you won't do whatever it takes to get one, no matter the cost? not because of need, but desire

              • well, i will most certainly try very very hard. I am a murcer afterall, and saving enough money is only a question of time...

                • Money is never a problem, it just slows things down. (sometimes so much that normal human life isn't enough, but I don't think in this case.)

After suffering the Opengl driver torture, i was sick of matrox and the way it handles it's customers. I switched to Nvidia cards, first a TNT2 ultra, then a Geforce 256 and now a Geforce3 Ti500. All of these nvidia cards had/have many advantages: very good 3d performance, good drivers with impeccable opengl support (my Nr. 1 priority) and they were very overclockable for even more performance. I use these cards for games, programming, design and 3d animation (T&L does wonders in 3d-applications). The only disadvantage each card had was 2D quality. When plugging out the G200 and installing the TNT2 ultra, the difference was VERY clear. The colors were washed out and the characters were somewhat more blurry at high resolutions. It didn't require a graphic artist to see the difference, it was obvious to everyone. And on top of that, my new and expensive Ti500 is even worse. Only for that reason do i miss the G200. But ... from the moment nvidia gets it act together and forces the manufacturers to build cards with better 2D quality, Matrox will have even more trouble building a card that can compete with nvidia. If this mysterious card DOES come out and the rumours are true, i'll be thrilled. I'll drop everything and start searching for a shelf with my new matrox card on it. But when i think of how matrox handled driver support for the G200 and all the rumours i've heard about new matrox cards, i really can't believe all this. I feel stupid when i do.
                      Yadda Yadda Yadda!

                      Yeah I remeber you!

                      I also bought the G200!

                      And I loved that Card!!

Quick as hell! (It was a Voodoo2 killer, as it did kick the Voodoo2 card out of my box!)

Strangly enough the first Time I ever heard about OpenGl was in a rant about that it didn't work with G200 cards......(all my games worked with dx3-5 and a lot of the 3d apps....)

Then I found out that It was only Q2 that required OpenGl to work....(and that one did work great with the wrapper)

                      So I did not care

And don't say anything about certin 3d apps that use Opengl and costs about 3-4 times what the G200 card cost.....

                      AND

Murc has evolved beond the "I have a matrox card and then I am a Murc - I don't use my matrox card anymore and therfore I am not anymore a murcer" syndrome!!

I don't have my G200 in any box anymore!

I haven't used a Matrox card in my main box for a year or more (withdraval effects have been terible )

I still consider me a Murcer!!

If there's artificial intelligence, there's bound to be some artificial stupidity.

i think the radeon will be called 9xxx because ati have stated that their naming reflects the dx version, ie the 8500 is dx8, the 7500 dx 7

Assuming that the new "M"'s will be rated

                            rank the following:

Nvidia TI 4600 Dual Monitor 128M

                            • Yeah !!

I`ve just seen over on http://www.within3d.net/index.php that Parhelia is mentioned for the first time (as far as I know) in an german print magazine called "Game Star":

                              Original:

                              Bablefish says the following:
Noble diagram card manufacturer Matrox wants back into the 3D-Markt: With a round envelope the entire competition (inclusive GeForce 4 Ti) is to be set matt. The Nobel chip is more efficiently, but than those approximately 500 euro expensive Ti-4600 become still substantially more expensive cards. With it the trend continues you to diagram boards of the absolute luxury class. For most players a Highend version thereby will remain exorbitant. Matrox's surprise coup carries the code name Parhelia.. That is to back-conquer the performance crown with improved T&L unit and a fire-new technique named Displacement Mapping.. DISPLACEMENT Mapping is a advanced version of Bump Mapping and is still more realistic surfaces to permit. An object with a special texture becomes occupies, which contains deformation information. This texture does not thus only determine the appearance of the object, but also its plastic development in certain situations. So far this effect with Bump Mapping was only simulated. First two Parhelia models with in each case 64 and 128 MByte version appear alleged. A 256MByte version follows somewhat later - the actual GeForce 4 and Radeon of 9000 opponents. Already in the summer the first Parhelia cards with a chip clock of 300 mc/s are to be finished.
